Question What is GM CERTIFIED CRITERA?

Hello all. New forum member here. I purchased a 2007 LT1 60k two weeks ago. In two weeks its been back for front struts and links, left headlight plug, HVAC blower motor.
My question is this? It came Certified GM 12/12 Bumper to Bumper and GM backed 100k powertrain. Who sets the guide lines? Where can I find them?
I had blower motor noises and found two years worth of trash in the INCABIN mirco filter. Dealer said they usually dont service that? Since this same So-cal dealer crushed the oil filter o-rings and I had to return for a leak repair. I asked then about the trans, and to check it had been serviced since it's a 50k service interval. Dealer said according to their records no such service was performed, nor would they have done it?? Silly me but I ASSUMED that to be a GM CERTIFIED CAR all serviceable points would be serviced and full mechanical inspection would be performed, as well as all scheduled maintanince would also be brought up to date???
Silly me or what?
Nice to meet ya'll

I will try to find the link that explains it but GM has a checklist and I believe the dealer has to pay a fee to get the extended coverage. Obviously the 07 is already covered on the power train for 5yrs/100k so the bumper to bumper is the only real extension.

I thought the car had to still be under the GM warranty to get the certification and while the power train was extended to 5 yr/100k for all 2007, I would think they would only extend the 2005/2006 and older to get to up to that level for power train.

As for servicing the car, that is a cost to the consumer and GM has been pushing out the service intervals. I know my son's Cav has a sealed trans (no dip stick) and it says to not service the fluid untill 100k. Maybe having the car serviced at the right intervals isn't a requirement. I don't think GM covers the cabin filters at any time. It's a consumable.

I will look for the link. Someone from a dealer on here should jump in with the facts. I asked a buddy that works for GM and he explained it but I've forgotten the details.

The trouble with any certified vehicles is that the inspections are only as good as the dealer/mechanic doing the inspection. Being that your dealer couldn't get an oil filter installed correctly, I would certainly question thier ability to perform a thorough inspection. On the flip side, no inspection is going to catch every problem. You as the owner discovered problems because you drive it every day. Mechanics don't have that luxury. A certified vehicle gives you the extended b2b warranty. I know it may be frustrating to take it back a few times, but it sounds like they are fulfilling their obligation to make repairs as needed. At no cost to you. At 60k, if you bought a non-certified car, you'd be paying for these repairs. Frankly I think you got a great deal. My certified extended warranty ran out in Nov. So while you are covered at 60k, I am not at 36k.

The inspection does not include performing normal maintenance services. This includes filters, like the air and cabin filters. These aren't covered under the original warranty either so I'm a little puzzled as to why you think a they would be taken care of on a used vehicle with 60k on it? Most dealers will however do an oil change on a used car. Some even give you your first oil change for free.

If you want the scheduled maintenance performed, you may want to look at VW or BMW. AFAIK, they are the only manufacturers that perform scheduled maintenance for free.

I checked on the cost and the dealer pays somewhere between 300 and 400 bucks (which they pass on to the buyer in the end). So it's really more of an insurance policy.

I'd use it to death and get everything fixed you can while you can. But for the consumables, that is on you.

The answer is there is NO inspection done, a tech holds a sheet of paper and checks things off. My long involved story includes faulty Carfax report and previous damage that any tech would have immediately noticed upon opening the hood. I have found that the dealer relies on Carfax to "certify" no accidents at the same time they tell you not to rely on Carfax, but to do your own inspection. Carfax reports can be amended anytime. Anyway, my story ends with a complaint to the BBB and a settlement of $770, the supposed premium for a GM Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.

im starting to wonder if my car was in a wreck....i have an 06 spring edition i bought in 08with 16k miles on it and it eats tires pretty quick and all the body panels have stickers that say "safe parts" and a 1800 number on them. upon further review i just noticed a paint run on the back bumper so im guessing it was re-sprayed or GM just did a crappy job.......i also had a carfax report that said no issues

Something that is somewhat misunderstood is what the GM Cert Veh Warrantee buys you.

In my case, I got an SS that was 1 year old at a great price from a renowned Acura dealer. (I paid $16871.00). They included a 30 day, 1000 mile warrantee, but it didn't matter to me. Anyway, this particular dealer was absolutely great.

I figured that the warrantee still had 2 years left on the bumper to bumper and 4 years on the powertrain. The car had 6,700 miles on the odo and from my driving habits, I knew that I would never hit the mileage limit. If I were to purchase a "Certified" preowned HHR, would the duration of the bumper to bumper be extended another year above and beyond the factory? In this aspect, I would only be concerned with components such as HVAC systems, suspension and body components.

On a Chevrolet if the vehicle has less than 36,000 miles and is less than 3 years old it adds 12 months and 12,000 to the factory bumper to bumper warranty so you end up with a 4 year 48,000 mile factory warranty.

If it has more than 36K or is over 3 years old it gets a 12/12 warranty from the date of purchase as a certified used vehicle.

The 5 year 100K powertrain is calculated from the original in service date, which is the date it was purchased new by the original owner.
