It just will not have the zip people would expect for a Camaro. 600 pounds removes a lot of expected zip.

Also GM needs to sell people on a V6 Camaro first before they can sell a 4 cylinder. At this point the V6 sales are a unknown and GM is hoping it is accepted. They put a lot of effort and money into the V6.

They need to somehow erase the stigma then. Camaro=V8, plain and simple. Why pay homage to a car that was known for its endeavors in the racing world and bred to compete with the Mustang. It's a sports car and should be justly outfitted.
Conversely,I've never met a Grand National owner that wished there was a V8(NA) option when they bought it. Now here's a well known V6 bandwagon they can jump onto and build on if they want acceptance. Bring back that DoDo, then we'll talk V6. 300hp is no slouch, but think of where this technology would now be if they had kept on with it considering our 2.0's abilities.

The power out of the V6 is not the issue. Many Camaro owners are just hung up on cylinder count.

The Mustang demo has been half female and this has permited the accpetance of the Mustang V6 that accounts for more than hald it's sales.

The 3rd and 4th gen Camaro was more a car that played to the male Demo and most of them wanted a V8. Add to that they never really had a good V6 to since the 250 6 in the second gen.

I think with pricing and with the increase in gas prices soon the V6 will be the right car at the the right time for once. With the performance parts the 3.6 DI has yet to even show what can be done. The 2.0 only gives an indication of the newe V6 potential.

We have a 3.6 already in the familly and it is a great engine. The DI will only make it better.

They already are going to offer a Turbo 3.0 V6 soon at GM and I expect the turbo to be used in many V6 applications.

Contrary to the misconcpetion GM has not given up on performance.

The old GN is nothing copared to todays V6 engines. GM has a great line and we will see a lot out of it. Lets face it this new Buicks base engine is already ahead in HP than the original GN and it is not even offered in a turbo or SC yet.

If they can make a new turbo V6(DI) with the current 2.0T ability and characteristics, they will have a new winner. Too often, when they move up cylinders, they switch to supercharging....probably cause they don't know what to do with all the heat of recirculating V6/V8 exhausts. I know my vette get's warm enough due to aluminum headers in the small cabin.

THey already have a Twin Turbo DI V6 Coming in Europe at Opel. It will see about 320-350 HP depending on the report. We will not see it here right away but we will see the 3.0 Turbo this fall in the SRX.

The V8 super charged engine may be the last as GM has adopted Turbo now for better mileage. Also they work well with the DI engines.

That's great to hear, I tinkered with the idea of turbo'ing the vette, but didn't want the hassle of placement of the turbo and all the custom pipe needed, with a fiberglass body. Supercharger required damper, damper pulley, belts and rerouting of alternater to otherside of car. Turbo would have been that and much, much, much more.
