Air Box.
Is it okay to drive with out the cover on the air box? I have no clue exactly what the air box even does so if someone would be so kind to inform me that would be great!!

I've tried driving without the airbox cover, and have also discussed it with Vince from Trifecta tuning. He has an HHR SS, and has done this to his own car.
It does raise the intake air temperature, because it's no longer pulling cold air from outside the engine bay. Vince told me that the difference in power isn't noticeable, but some people have reported power decreases on the dyno. Of course, on the dyno you're not getting the same airflow as driving around.
With the cover off, the engine does sound pretty cool. The whistle of the turbo and the wooshes from the blow-off valve are quite a bit louder. I never felt a performance difference, and if you like the noises, it might be worth it

Remember this was done on a dyno where there is no airflow going over the car...this will greatly affect underhood tempts even if they do put a fan in front of the car...that fan cannot duplicate the airflow over the ENTIRE car at 60 mph! While moving there is a vacuum under the car that helps pull air thru the eng compt...that doesn't necessarily mean HOT air is being drawn in......I'm not saying it doesn't, buts really something to think about (or experiment with)...IMO its too loud anyways for underhood noises..at first start up it sounds awful until the eng stabilizes. But, that could just be harmonics from the open air box in relation to the hood, if it were open 360 it would sound different..........
