Camshaft Postion solenoid
Camshaft Postion solenoid
I keep getting the Yellow Engine light on and off. Always intermittent. Test show that it is the crankshaft position solenoid. Car runs perfect. Should I change the solenoid? Or could it be a loose connection? Lastly wait until it stays on constantly.

This is one of those times where the search thing on the page might have been a good option. This is what you get when you use it.

DaveEast - I/we can likely help point you in the right direction, but not until you post the OBDII codes.
Whenever the Engine check light comes on it's the codes you need to give the details for - the codes, not a description - as we have had a lot of members give the description that the auto-parts stores tells them, and it often turn out to be wrong verbage.
So post the code(s) and we'll get you pointed in the right direction.

Ok sorry !! I miss spoke. It is the camshaft solenoid positioning OBDII P0013
The engine runs perfect. I have Zero black in the exhaust pipe. Every thing appears normal but ME. No rough idle. Just an intermittent engine light. Thanks guys.

Cool - the semi infamous P0013 - yeah, it's best to just go ahead and replace it before it worse - checkout this link on the procedure to swap it out - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...13-14-a-28779/
It's a pretty easy job overall - and if you can stick with the genuine GM ones that's would be a good move. They aren't that pricey, and are an easy do-it-yourself job in the driveway, so you may want to consider replacing both the exhaust and the intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoids.
Check out the above link for the appropriate part numbers and the replacement procedure. Let us know how it goes.
ps: no immediate harm seems to occur in the short term if the condition continues - but if it gets worse you will get some rough running, and sometimes the tranny will shift abruptly - and some have said the gas mileage gets bad

OK Whopper... I did it and almost all worked out well. I am one that NEVER seems to read all the instructions. LOL Like where in heck did they put the Battery?? DUH. Ok so I go and disconnect the negative post. We are not supposed to work on vehicles in our drives way. The manager drove by so I locked the doors an put the hood down. SIR you cannot fix Stupid. Ok now he is gone so I open the hood finish the job and tried to get inside of my car to hook up the battery. Dang, Dummy. ALL the locks are electric. Oh stop it. You have done stuff before. I did manage to crawl inside to the back and connect the battery. I had to call the WIFIE to open the truck. Thanks again for everyone's help
and the HHR runs great.

When a friend wanted to kill his check engine light he called me to come over with my OBDII scan tool to check the code and reset the light.
I mentioned that if he disconnect the battery for between 5 and 30 minutes the light would go out but told him not to bother because I was on my way.
He got impatient and disconnected the battery then decided to go in the house to get a cold beer while he waited for me to get there. When he went in to get the beer he closed all the doors.
Idjet!!
Fortunately when he shut the hood there were still some tools laying on the top of the engine so it was just on the safety catch so it opened easy enough. I was able to just barely reach my jumper cables from the back of his car to the battery terminal under the hood and get the doors to open that way.
He was ready to smash out a window, I told him if nothing else we would remove my battery and bring it to the front of his car.
He has since bought a portable jump start pack for just in case that happens again but, guess where he keeps the jumper pack, that's right, in the back of his HHR.
The only code he had in his computer was the P0440 EVAP control system one. I cleaned the gas fill hole like I had already done on my own HHR and put a light coat of axle grease on it and the code has not come back since.
I guess since the OP was trying to make it look like he wasn't working on his car he probably shut the hood completely.
