Angry Dealerships reluctant to install GMTU!!!

I live in southern California. There is a local dealer who said they can install the GMTU but it seems their tech has never actually done the job before. So I figure I call some of the bigger Chevy dealers some as much as 50 miles away from my current location to see if perhaps one dealer had some experience with the upgrade, but all the answers were a big clueless "NO". Either the dealer never heard of the upgrade or was not willing to install, 4 of them actually said they "can't accept responsibility for installs on aftermarket parts" even after I explained that this was a GM part and would not even void the warranty. It's pretty frustrating. I'm going to stick with my local dealer and hope they know what they are doing. But I figure I'd just rant a little about this issue. I know others have ran into this before in other states. I just don't understand why it's such a mystery, feel free to share in any experiences recommendations or opinions.

Let me elaborate to preclude seeming like a d****e. My confidence in the support I can expect from the dealer for a little known upgrade to a discontinued car is just not there. I decided that it would be borrowing trouble to have the GMTU. I realize that you get warantee support from the GMTU but I'd rather enjoy my car in my way this side of a dirt-nap. I guess it is a trust issue with me and this is my opinion.

I would go with either Trifecta or HPtunes..... just seems like the better way to go with a lot less problems in the long run...

I totally understand what you mean and if I would have known that before I bought my car I would have done things differently but I paid for a 4 year extended warranty so the GMTU is my only option if I want to keep that warranty. I guess I'm just gonna have to roll the dice. I feel like I'm in Vegas on a betting table. I know some people on here have had 0 problems with their GMTU so I guess we will find out in few days if lady luck is on my side. I'll be posting up what happens after the dealer is done. The kit should arrive tomorrow or Friday. Then I'll probably set up a appointment for Monday to get it installed.
Wish me luck sounds like I'm gonna need it.

Make sure it is the kit that has the plug in adapter cables and NOT THE CRIMP CONNECTORS, don't let them cut your wiring harness. Hopefully there are none of the crimp kits left on anyones shelves. Tell them to watch the clearance of the lower TMAP sensor with the A/C compressor and make sure the tab is removed on the lower TMAP and it is installed flush. Use premium fuel and have some fun. Mine was the first the dealer did and it ran great for a while, then the bad crimp problems arose. The dealer finally gave up and soldered them. That was before the new plug cables came in the kits.

Great advice will do. I already printed out some pics to give to the tech showing the lower sensor and a bracket that was made to keep the sensor from hitting anything. As for the kit itself I orderd it from crateengine and on their site it says it comes with the new harnesses and I even emailed them to confirm that the new harnesses were in stock. So I should be good with that. But even with that I'll make sure that they use those harnesses, I know someone on this forum posted that they had their kit with the new harnesses but the tech still spliced into the old ones and didn't even use the new quick connects, so I may have to hold their hand on this one. I don't want to become another GMTU horror story

You mean this one. My dealer just put someone else's stg1 in and didn't do this for him, 2 weeks later it is having intermittent boost problems, any body got a guess why ??

BTW my dealer made the bracket for mine. I haven't had any boost problems since, and my connections are only soldered.

Do yourself a favor, do this with stg-1

Yup that's exactly what I printed out. I'll be showing those pics to the tech but would they charge extra for that bracket??
