I kinda agree 'bout today's slush boxes and I know what ya'll are sayin' performance wise and all that. The deal is except for two cars and one big truck that had a Allison 5 spd auto in front of a manual 3 spd all I've ever driven has been stick shifters in 48 years of wheelin'. I started a little sooner than most down in the southwest mountains of Virginia and I've never been
"comfy" with only 2 pedals on the floor.
Anyways I'm thinkin' (A) ditch the thing and let someone else deal w/ it. ( not my style ) Or (B) bite the bullet and put a spec 4 clutch ( a four puck ) into it and be done with it.
Yeah I thought maybe it's the hydralic side but replacing the fluid and bleedin' it only lighten my pocket and added to my fustration with it.
And with TTR bein' on the top of my "good" vendor list I'm gonna be contactin' you 'bout this replacement part shortly when I start the search.
That's 'bout it guys......... and think twice 'bout Chevorlet.

Bart, ya got a good start. If you don't already have'em get the TTR mounts for the engine and tranny. The difference is like night and day.

And I too am thinking the same..... it couldn't be the clutch.
Over at cobaltss.net it seems a lot of the guys are/have had the same or close to it problem. Clutch assembley gets replaced, no more problem.
Over here, Jonboyb is having the same deal as me.
And it's gonna cost 'bout what I was thinkin'. Wrenchin' time plus decent clutch equals $1,500.00 to $1,650 USD.
!8,200 miles and a bad clutch?? Unless you are beating the hell out of the car, a clutch should last lots longer. I just had a clutch replace in my 87 Fiero GT at 135,000 miles.

Well guys how does this sound. The General has an orfice (sp) in the hydralic line that runs from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder. Now for what ever reason cold weather effects this openin' and doesn't let the clutch fully engage. Under normal drivin' things are ok but smash the go pedal and when the power comes on she drives thru the holdin' power of the clutch. Far fetched? Sumthin' I pulled out of my butt? Just google chevrolet clutches s<ck and look at the issues that the C-5 and C-6 Vette guys are havin'. Course they are racin' etc but it's the malfuntion of the clutch that I have in common w/ their problem. After all that openin' permits me to peg the go pedal and dump the clutch w/ no ill effects. (because the restriction doesn't let the clutch BANG into action)
Whatta think Chevrolet is gonna say to that and what am I gonna have to do to prove it?

You guys in the cold regions ever have the systoms that Jonboyb and I have talked about?
When she slips the r's jump up 'bout 5 or 600 rpm's......only in cold weather...... it's not zingin' like the clutch has let loose?

Stranger:

LIke I said in my other post, I'm scheduled to drop it off in the next couple weeks for the tranny guy to go through the hydraulics and see if he can figure out my issue (he's with us....cold weather shouldn't cause an actual disc/PP issue at all). I drove it to work this morning (19 degrees in-car, and probably carrying an extra 500 lbs of snow and ice) and it's not slipping AT ALL....I tried, and tried, and then tried some more this morning and it's fine. Does this every time I get ready to have an issue looked at. It's been slipping for a month or so since temps dropped....now nada

jonboyb,
please oh please keep me in the loop. all i can do for now is let her sit, not that i drive her a lot to start with. and it's been a touch too cold for me to pop the hood for a longer look see.
one thing i did find out is that zero shops in this part of town will stand behind their labor.
at least the company i work for stands behind what they advertise and then some.
