Just got a quote for the GMS1 upgrade from the Allen Gwynn Chevrolet in Glendale, CA. It's almost twice as much as I thought it would be. Won't be buying so much as a decal from them in the future. The part on the GM Parts website is $499.99 and 1.5 to 2 hrs. of labor. Anyone know of a dealership in Southern California that isn't run by thieves who could do the work? Thanks!

Buy the kit yourself then take it to the dealer for the install. The dealer charge will be for labor only.
(make sure that you also get the plug and play wire harness that is now available for the GMTU kit)

 

If you were to order an HHR SS with the GM turbo upgrade option it is supposed to be an $800 dollar option, installed. That dealership obviously didn't do their homework. $1200 is outrageous.

I paid about $600 installed over 3 years ago.... I would have thought the newer plug-n-play would have been a little easier and cheaper now.

for $1,200 bucks you ought to get twice the HP

 

I found another dealer here in Los Angeles area who said they were really doing me a favor to do the install for 350.00. I can buy the kit for 499.00. From what everyone says here and elsewhere, that's still way high. I'm doing a few things first, sway bar, motor mount, etc. and then I'm going to keep looking. $200.00 in labor charges seems like it should get it done, right?

All the dealers(4) I've talked with said the book shows 2 hrs labor. So 2 times their hourly rate should be about right.

 

I'd like to see job done in 30mins. I was on the phone with Techline for around 15 minutes to get them to update SPS. So I guess that leaves 15 minutes to lift the vehicle, install the two sensors after modifying one, and then reflash the ECM. Huh.

Let's at least try to be realistic.
