Hahn CAI

Does anyone know if the Hahn cool ram intake system for the Cobalt SS /tc will fit on an HHR SS. It looks to be the same but I didn't want to spend the money without knowing for sure....

No. The HHR SS and Cobalt SS/TC intakes are completely different, the Cobalt SS/TC has more room in the engine bay so the intake is routed differently.

The only intake upgrade option is the K&N one iirc. Anything else that's a short ram or places a cone filter above the engine is asking for trouble because the engine bay gets quite hot without anything isolating the air intake.

That sucks. You'd figure someone would have been all over that by now.

Its because of the design of the HHR SS. If you look under the hood there's virtually no way of making an actual cold air intake work. The stock air box isolates heat out pretty well and draws air from the fender area.

Aside from the K&N upgrade kit, which just replaces the little section from the air box to the turbo for a bit better air flow, there's not much else that can be done without doing some sort of ram air setup IMO.

All good stuff to know. I noticed on their site it said available soon and wondered to myself why it wouldn't have been done already.

For the SS, only K&N has a full "CAI". Granted it's the filter, a new filter box cover and the mentioned pipe going to the turbo for around $300. Other companies make a SRI (short ram intake) where the filter sits out in the open above or just in front of the valve cover. AFAIK the factory box is pretty decent out of the box and some have just put a drop in K&N filter and called it a day. With all these options, some have experienced the P0101 code (MAF sensor code), some haven't.

Secret Services is the only real place to get a HHR SS filter, except the crappy k&n deal. I'm pulling quite a bit of good air with the stock box even the stock filter. I figure I'll get a k&n filter when I feel the filter needs to be changed. I have 28k and it still seems good, I have rotated it a couple times and I flow 32lbs/min with my tune on a nearly daily basis. :)
