Hey Batman,

I did some digging and its a crappy place to draw air, but if you look between the door jamb and the hinge side of the frame, there is a piece of insulation between the frame and fender wall and not much else, can someone else verify my observation.
XXL was working on a custom fab where he was attempting to draw air from both foglight openings, but there have been no new posts for a while now. IMO Batman is close to the true answer.
I think if you were to add a rear facing scoop unit with baffles, that bolted directly to the top of the stock air-box, and then protruded through the hood(off-center) would be a "complete option".... and it would look pretty F'ing cool with the hood up!
2nd idea, would be to attach the scoop to the hood(off-center) and snug the hood to the stock air-box with some pretty thick weather stripping.
Either way, the scoop will be off-center. I'm OK with that considering the engine is European to start with. A way around that would be to alarge shaker scoop but, keep the openng in the hood over the air box.(nobody would see it, unless you showed them.
Thoughts?

I agreee .
With an offset funnel from the hood to the box, I could get the same results as an offset scoop, (measurements would be a PITA)
I've just never been a fan of the offset thing.
There is a member on here with a large scoop that would work for what your describing, His hhr is red and it was a featured car one month, So you should be able to find it.

Yeah I remember that one very good look for the HHR!, as I remember, he removed most of the hood under the scoop instead of trying to isolate where the air was coming from. I do think in your case that there is enough room to attach a short large dia. residential A/C flex tube directly to your air-box, just to try it out, or easier still, cut up a card-board box and tape up a template, just to see if it could work(I wouldn't drive very far that way, but it couldn't hurt for a five minute test). Or I'm sure you could get a sheet metal place to make a connector very cheap, and polished! I'm gonna try re-routing the existing tube opening in two parts with a catch box for water, under the plastic fascia near the fire wall using some flex tubing, I'm gonna try and leave the filter and box where its at, .(when work permits).

I'm not much of a fan of the off-set thing myself but, for some reason I don't mind it on the HHR..... weird. Maybe because its got that WWII bomber thingy going on... ya know it might look pretty good painted up like a B-17 with some fake guns poking out and a turret on top As I recall, there is an OD Green panel with USAF Markings out there somewhere

The B-17 ,That would be sweet.

I don't recall seeing that his was a functional scoop. ? I hav'nt seen that one in a while. I thought i was the only nut on here that cut up the hood.

The offset thing would work on our HHR's Someone needs to do a few photochops,

I know XXL said he's been busy with other stuff, I hope he was'nt banned for some of the silly stuff we were postin .
He's a strange man, I like that,
And he knows his -hit.

I don't want to cut my hood up so I think I figured out what I'm gonna do. I'm just gonna make a tube to draw in air from the drivers side in between the radiator and the rad support. I'm either gonna use my factory I/C tubing or I'm gonna fab something up with some prepreg CF. Either way I figure I'll get it within about an inch from the box and basically have an inlet tube on it and use a silicone coupler to connect it. I'll let you know when I go through with it.

Keep us posted, It should work fine.

Can't wait to do the trifecta tune, My plan is ram air tuned for good weather,
and a simple replace cover and selecta tune to stock in the winter.

Sounds good. I just got a bunch of stuff over the last couple days so I'm hoping to get it all installed tonight and tomorrow. Then I'll figure out what I'm gonna do.....making the intake duct where I want it should be pretty straight forward. Gotta get to the craft store for some foam!
