Question Intercooler and AC condensor bug/rock protection

Are there any kits that put a screen over the intercooler and AC condensor to help with rocks and bugs? I can fab something but I figured I'd see if something what already out there.

I know it will reduce the air flow a bit but right now, that isn't an issue....

I have not seen any issue with rock on the SS like on the regular HHR. THe regular HHR has a opening at the bottom that eats rocks.

The SS grill could get one through but with the size and shape of the holes is should not be any worse than anything eles ont he road.

The guard for the regular HHR should fit the condensor on the SS.

As for the IC it is pretty rugged on the face side. Even when I had my accident it took a beating but the part that showed the most damage were the plastic inlet and oulet.

Pardon my ignorance, but someone makes a stone guard for the regular HHR?

Yeah, tell us more. I usually use essentially large open mesh window screen. It won't stop suicidal mosquitoes but it stops most of the larger bugs.

The TSB for this is 08-06-02-001 and I think if you are under warranty and went to your dealer telling them you are concerned that a leak could occur if these items are hit by road debris, give them the bulletin number, they should agree to install it.

If you are out of warranty and want to install it the part # is 25829960 and you should be able to get it for less then $25.00. It takes all of 2 minutes to install.

This piece along with a lower grille mod should protect you from damage to the radiator or condenser. But nothing is 100% certain!

I forgot about the difference in the SS front end. I think some screen behind the honey comb would be good but I can see the openings are pretty small anyway.

I'd be wary about putting anything behind the honey comb on the SS..it doesn't take much to upset the airflow over the IC to reduce its effectiveness...increasing the IC temp is the last thing you'd want to do....unless your all show and no go...

For those that had GN/TR 3.8L Turbo's from 86/87 there was a fan attached to the crank that drew air in through the intercooler. There appears to be enough space to do the same thing in the SS. If I did install a screen I would consider the fans too. But as I said, after looking at the honeycomb grill I am not as worried.

And yes, I am all show and no go!!!
