K&N Air Filter

I see alot of HHR SS owners are running the K&N Air Filters. I talked with a mechanic today that said using these air filters with the oil contaminates the MAF sensor. He said that with this condition, it can send corrupt signals to the PCM that can result in performance issues along with damage to the sensor. Any thoughts?

Your mechanic is a conspiracy theorist.

Likely thinks that the the Twin Towers was an inside job and that healthcare reform is a Bolshevik plot.

I've heard negative things can happen if you over oil the filter. I haven't cleaned mine yet so I can't say anything about it.

Your mechanic is right on. You also need to know that the world is flat. The Grand Canyon is a mirage. And the moon is made out of cheese. Yep, that covers it.

I've been running K&N filters for over 15 years on every vehicles I've owned in that time frame. Several were reoiled, some more than once. If you follow the directions, you will not have a problem. Over oiling can get oil on the MAF, but all it takes a a quick spray with electrical contact cleaner and it's cleaned up.

Dealership want to keep selling you disposable filters, at the same cost as the one time K&N to boot.....
