Not Too Impressed
recently my car lost power. I won't say "boost" some people like to harp on that.
I only had the Stage kit for about 2000 miles at that point.
first dealer replaced the wastegate solenoid, which ended up not being the problem
finally got a P0299 code (Turbocharger Engine Underboost) drove for awhile with no code and little or no power.
took it to another dealer... turns out someone (tech) at the first dealership adjusted the wastegate solenoid actuator in the wrong direction.
they also put the convoluted tubing over my wires.

Also note if you are used to 300-400 HP cars the power is not as big deal as it is to some. Remember some here have never had a car with a power to weight of this car. While I love my SS it is far from the fasted car I have owned or driven. But it is still impressive for a 4 cylinder as it has V8 like power and is very civil.
The fact I have this power out of 2.0 is what impresses me. My first drive in a 2010 Camaro SS was not all that impressive as the acceleration was similar to the SS with the upgrade. It was good but just not a shock to the system.
...
But my goal was to go for mileage and power. I wanted something different. The 2.0L is an amazing package. Since I never even did a burnout on either of the other cars I was happy to drop some power and enjoy the mileage and handling (I think the SS could outrun the GTO in the twisties.
I don't regret my decision one bit but I agree, it's not a V8. But hey, my Fiero still puts a smile on my face and it's nowhere near the SS power.
I see about 21-23 PSI of boost on 91 octane California gas. Once in awhile I can feel it pull a little timing.
That's a good point. I came from a Grand National and then 2004 GTO and the SS even with the upgrade doesn't have the acceleration. Both would eat the SS.

I got over the burn out thing a long time ago. Tires are too expensive and loosers spin the tires as the guys that hook win. Just something I got beaten in my head and it stuck by a friend who seldom lost a race at the track and most else where.
The hhr ss isn't too fast......but then again there is one on you tube that is somewhere in the 13.20's....... and that sure would be out front of a lot of yesteryears hot rods. It's not "how" fast but "how" quick...... kinda like the debate 'bout horsey power and torque....... Me personally....I'll take torque.
Hooking is Good
I agree that spinning the tires is not the desired effect. Hooking is good. I do not dump the clutch because I don't think the HHR would stand up to much of that. I have layed into it at a 10 mph roll in comp mode and flat foot shifted. It will chirp the tires pretty good in 2nd gear and hit the suspension pretty hard. It does have limited slip. I assumed that was standard on all SS's but I guess not in 2008 and 2009.

At some point you just have to accept your position in the world of fast.

Kevin has the fastest DSM (Eclipse, Talon or Laser) in New England.
8.9 seconds at 156
I don't have (and won't install) Flash so I can't watch utube but here's a 9 second pass
You know you have a big turbo when you have to cut a hole in your hood for it.
I think Brent Rau has the fastest DSM these days.
I saw that he's into the 6's
1400 HP's not bad for a 4 banger.
