Question on IC piping and BOV's

OK regardless of what brand we get, is an aftermarket BOV necessary for those of us who own an SS w/ auto tranny? I ask because when I get around to upgrading the IC and piping I'm leaning towards getting an aftermarket BOV also. My main concern is that I don't want to throw money away if there's no benefit to getting one aside from "looks". I know with the manual trannies, a BOV helps w/ discharging the excess boost between shifts, but in an auto tranny would there be a benefit?? Are there any of you SS owners with auto transmission that did the IC piping get an aftermarket BOV?

Later

From what I know, don't do it. The stock wastegate does just fine.

You will be just fine without an aftermarket BOV with an auto tranny. Im running one because i will be doing a bigger turbo down the road, and i put in the block off plate n all

start with the stiffer spring for now, it makes the shift a little faster and the throttle response is slightly improved for around 12.00 bucks, don't forget you can order the IC piping with the flange welded in and use a block-off plate for it... IMO it would be better to have the piping with the ability to add a BOV down the road, you never know.

A BOV does nothing for performance. It determines the release point of manifold pressure to avoid compressor surge during abrupt throttle closing.

I understand that part, but my main question is: IS there any benefit to having one installed on an SS that has an automatic transmission? I'll have an intercooler and piping soon, and as far as the turbo, it'll remain stock. Some say there isn't a benefit to getting an aftermarket BOV since there isn't much if any lag between shifts. So if the stock one is fine then I'll leave it well enough alone aside from upgrading the spring.

Thanks all,
Allex

From what I see on CSS.net people have more trouble then whats its worth when they try and install and after market BOV. If you decide to get one I would probably get whatever Bart has so he can help you get it hooked up right. Just my .02 worth.

LOL..still nobody answered his OP...... is there any benefit with a stock turbo?
All it does is unload the system so there is no damage under rapid deceleration...the stock system works fine..changing the piping/AC only affects the amount and temp of the air coming in.
