I like it, for improving on an existing idea.

As far as the hood scoop goes, why not buy a hood scoop that comes with a plug or make your own plug for the hood scoop of your choice out of foam rubber??

You could keep the plug in the HHR some where and when it rains pull over and plug the opening in the scoop.

Larger hood scoop came in today, so will be finishing up my CAI soon. Scoop turned out to be just the right size,I was looking for. Looks like a quality piece. "Moon"

To be quite honest[read: Busted!] I have'nt cut out hood yet. Scoop needs to be cleared[next week], then the hood will be cut, before I mount scoop for final time. Still plotting hood cutout, between full scoop size cut, or one that just covers filter on airbox plate cutout. Will decide before I final mount scoop. Then rubber sea,l to mate airbox to hood. Bigger scoop sure looks more aggressive, this go around.
Final deal will hopefully be finished by next weekend. "Moon"

Just finished up CAI today.
Cut hood to match up with custom lid for stock airbox.
Checked before and after underhood air temps, and after hood cutout, saw a 60 degree drop in underhood temps.
You can now really hear turbo spooling up, and BOV popping, inside and otside car. Sounds kinda wicked.
Got the bigger hood scoop feeding much cooler air to a fairly small cutout over the open filter. I can put the stock lid back on and it's back to stock, if need be.
Real pleased with how it came out. "Moon"

P.S. Ole "4 Play" sure gets a lot of attention, especially after bigger hood scoop install. Couple guys almost rear ended the car in front, gawking at the SS, and gets lots of thumbs up, and attention everywhere I go.
