I am thinking about this too, planning a build for the spring. It seems my transmission slippage may be a non-issue, which leaves the wheel bearing as the only problem right now. After thats done in the next couple weeks, I doubt Ill get much out of the powertrain warranty in its final year.
First you have to decide if you may need the warranty. If nothings gone wrong after a couple years, and no problems are evident now, then whats the chance of something going wrong before the warranty is over? As stated above though, the turbo models are more complex and have had issues, especially with the stage 1 turbo upgrade.
Also, what a lot of people do, is keep the stock parts in case it needs big warranty work, then just put them back on. Also helps when (if) you get rid of the car.
The only thing that seems to be irreversible is an aftermarket tune.

Add your mods as the original parts wear out, you are less likely to cause warranty issues as time goes on.

but big power mods, and messing with the ECM is a sure fire way to not have coverage.

Ya know, blowing something big though, is just the excuse some of us are waiting for, to start the really big mods.

**the only thing I wearout on a regular basis is..... TIRES! I put a set of speed rated Eagle GT's on 9 months ago, and I will be looking for new shoes before christmas! great cornering, and fender caking, but damn soft!

IMHO, messing with the ECM is the only way you'd see and improvements with the various aftermarket parts. The catless DP would void the warranty and it is one of the few mods that help with HP.

I bought GM's extended warranty along with the car and other than the "Stage 1' and a sway bar further modding will have to wait.

I agree with what everyone is saying and thanks for the input! I'm going to give my service advisor a call to see what he says.

umm, no. do not mention or ask anything about aftermarket mods to your service advisor. The less they know the better, since you have already effectively voided your warranty.
If they suspect that you may have done anything like get a trifecta tune, they can flag your vehicle and have it checked any time its in for service. Correct me if im wrong, but I dont think vinces stealth tunes have been proven undetectable yet.
I doubt gm would make it that easy for their anti-tampering code to be tampered with.

Good Observation Prod!

In my case the dealer would have to be blind and armless not to know what I've done. But, everytime I have had the car into the dealer it has been for stuff covered by the 36K and never anything under the 100K, so it didn't matter, but again catt-less 3" from the manifold back, hardpipes, K&N, etc. is a red flag for GM to pay for it, at least in my case but, they happily do the work when I bring it in, and have never mentioned e not being covered with what I've done. Hmm, maybe they think that I know, that they know, that I know they won't cover it

According to the Moss/Magnason Act, a mfg/dealer cannot void your warranty for aftermarket parts/mods unless they can prove that a specific mod/part caused the damage in question.

This is exactly what my service advisor told me.

Trust me, if I hadn't previsiouly worked with him for 5 years...I wouldn't have asked him. We are good friends and used to be coworkers. He hooks me up alllllll the time when it comes to warranty issues

Ya its all about the relationship, good to hear you have found a service dept that will work well with you.
Legally, they cant void it without proof, but it happens anyways. Then it is up to the car owner to fight it. Or they can just refuse the job and you have to find another dealership willing to work on it.
