Texas residents step inside.
i understand thats why i posted this since i never lived in texas or anything. But yeah the palce i go to here for emissions only plugs the car in and then the guy tells you to have a nice day i dont even get out of my car
Cat is required
They are pretty strict about the cats here in the United States of Texas. I guess it is possible to get someone to illegally inspect your vehicle but it is getting harder and harder to find anyone who can do that. If I am not mistaken all of the cars are on a state wide system and if you fail your car is in the system and must be repaired before you can get a sticker.
I do not think you can even legally change out your cat before 50,000 miles unless GM does it under warranty.
I do not think you can find a muffler shop that would remove the cat. They are very strict about that here.
Plus if you removed the cat you are likely to have codes and other problems such as bad gas mileage and performance because of strange O2 reading after the cat.
Now I would not completly remove the cat but you may be able to put a larger aftermarket free flowing one on. Most inspection places would not know it was not the original equipment one.

Actually you can remove or replace the cat if you want, at any mileage. I am not aware of a specific fine for removing one in Texas, someone in law would have to answer that. (hhrcrafty?)
And there are plenty of shops that are more than willing to take your money for any service on an automobile.

Catalytic converter and downpipe for offroad use
Leave your cats in place.Offroad means off road. This is my best suggestion.
BTW-It takes less than an hr to swap it out, that includes finding all your tools and jacking the car up....Can be done at the track.

well i don't know about everybody else and i'm not bashing chevy mgr.,but if you take your car to the dealer to get inspected and you have no cats, you get what you deserve.
now, eric is right,no one checks for cats in texas, well atleast not with my cars. if you were in cali,oh yeah they will check!!!
i have a friend with a bad ass evo, turbo back no cats. he runs race gas and he gets perfect reading every single time.

In my town, you pull up and say I need an inspection, they look at your insurance card, write out a new sticker and put it on your car. No horn check, no signal check, no brake check, nothing. And its only like $15.
