Visual Stage I??
Easiest way is to look for the upper T-Map sensor. If it's black and has multicolor wires coming from it, its' stock. If it has a blue BOSCH sticker on it and has white wires coming from it, there's probably the upgrade installed. There are also emission stickers that should be installed under the hood and a premium fuel required sticker inside the fuel filler door, but this may be unreliable, because some may not affix them.
383L if your looking for more performance a tune will net more than the stage kit and I have not found anyone that has had any problems for warranty work with a tune. I have had my car in the shop a couple times and I've been tuned since the day I bought my car. if you want the stage kit you can buy the sensors and pigtails for $80 and flash the tune with hp tuners. you would just have to swap back to stock maps which would be easy if you use bullet type connectors on the pigtails. if you ever have any questions about anything and would like to talk to a local, you can email me at nwtr@hotmail.com or call or text me at 636 35 two 58 nine five. even if your not looking to get tuned, I don't mind answering any questions. I've been tuned for 25k now on my 09 with no problems whatsoever from the tune.
If the wife is looking for something to hold on too and giving you that look like she is not happy with you, it has a Turbo Upgrade kit.
As for the aftermarket tune you may or may not get away with it. The Eco Turbo is pretty strong and few have been damaged with most power adders.
Now on my GTP Series III SC. The aftermarket kits have been know to break pistons. I have seen many take their new car to the dealer to be told no warranty for you.
Many of the aftermarket kits are fine and do a good job but if they are found contribute to a damaged engine it is on you at that point.
You just have to see if it is worth the risk to you. I decided for only a few more HP it was not worth the risk on a vehicle I am still making payments on. Now if it was payed off and not a daily driver it might be different.

I've had a few fast cars before (69 Camaro 600hp, 2002 Camaro SS 455 hp). I appreciate the HP with the MPG and THE WARRANTY for my daily driver.
15-30 extra HP is not worth the risk of losing a 100,000 mile warranty TO ME.

I'm in agreement with hyperv6 in that if the car were out of warrantee and was only used as an around towner, tune to the hilt would be the way to go.
In my neck of the woods, my dealer is pretty good, so maybe an aftermarket mod may fly. My concern about an aftermarket tune is that I take my SS on regional business trips.
Whose to say that if it dumps the bed on the interstate and has to go into "joe unknown dealership" on a hook that they will be as liberal as another dealer? Not much to hide when you're out of town and your butt is over a barrel.
This is only my concern. Others may have ways to get around things like this.
