what are my chances of getting a code with a k&n filter
Don't have an SS, but I've had a K&N filter on the HHR since shortly after I bought it in August '05. Never given me any problem.

Imo, I don't think it has anything to do with over oiling, but more so with how the air moves across the MAF sensor. More dense air will flow differently which I think is why some have problems and some don't. Just a theory....

Just turn your shower to super hot.
Then spray down the filter, inside, & out.
This gets rid of the excess oil, & evenly coats the filter.
Let it dry overnight, before install.
I have done this to all my new K&N filters, over the years...

Mine (bought used) actually came with one. I have had no issues in about 45K miles. I have been using K&Ns for years, though, and clean my MAF sensors every other time I clean the filters.
Over-oiling can be an issue, and so can the air flow changes that XtremeSS mentioned. I have had neither.

Well I have not had a Check engine light come on yet but.
Today it is pouring out here and on the way home from work just before I got on to the highway I noticed the power level dropped off considerably then realized I had 0 boost it ran fine but no boost drove for a mile or so.
Turned the car off turned it back on and it was fine on the way home.
I plugged in my obd2 bluetooth adapter and ran the torque app her is what is is showing
for codes

Guessing the filter maybe
this is the first time I can remember driving the car in the rain this year with the new K&n filter

Contaminated MAF sensor...
Did you spray down the filter with hot water 1st, to remove
the excess oil ?
If not, it sounds like the excess moisture, from rain did it for you.
I would still spray the filter with hot water & buy the good
MAF cleaning spray, to decon the sensor.
Make sure you put the sensor back in correctly.
Mark it 1st, or look for the arrow, which shows direction of flow.

I figured I would be fine with the filter since this was the first k&n I ever saw that was so dry.

I have a couple filters, so I can take some time prepping the next one. After it is clean and dry, like two weeks dry, I spray a extremly light coat and let it sit a while. Take a look at it in a week, should be a nice even pink by now. It doesn't take much oil to catch plenty of dust....
Been running them that way 2+ years, checked the MAF a while back, almost perfect. Cleaned it anyway car was 4 years old.

Quick update.
Pending codes are gone
I ended up cleaning the maf and putting the. Stock filter back on for now.
Seems to idle smoother and I picked up 4-10 HP to the wheels says so right on the CRC can lol
Well guess its possible if the maf sensor was throwing air/fuel mixture off.

For me I had issues with the filter by itself with the stock pipe. I would throw a code and go into limp mode, but once I bought the full kit with the K&N pipe and lid, it all went away. Almost a year and no problems yet.
