I don't know how th do any of this stuff. I'm not a mechanic. I'm taking this on apart pretty extensively, kinda for practice.

I recommend new water pump balance shaft chain kit and timing chain kit, it much easier out of the car!

Watch this a couple of times to familiarize yourself

Yes, I just didn't have the energy to add both chains and guides and tensioners.

I'm thinking I'm gonna do that. I'm tinkering with the old engine to get a good feel for it before I do any internal stuff to the new one. Anyone know where I can get torque specs for all these bolts I gotta take out?

Good news. Found the engine. Totaled 08 cobalt. The swap was perfect. Started right up. I made it a point to label everything as I took it apart. Thanks for the info!
