2.2 verses 2.4

The dealership will most likely try to resell it for $8000-$9000 depending on whatever conditions they see fit. If they CPO it and warranty the vehicle, it would be a little higher. I do not think they would do that considering the mileage. Perhaps sell it outright and take that cash to the dealership and deal that way.
Or, you could buy a gently used 2011 model with super low miles and post depreciation. You could also probably tap any 2010 models with the $4000 rebate they were offering-if its still there. That is what I did. I bought a past model year vehicle with the rebate.
It looks like the 1LS models are going at a $3500 rebate and there is also an option of 0% APR for 60 months.
Both can equate to about the same amount in savings.

The 3500 rebate has been running most of the year on 2011's I got it in Feb.
Buying new cars these days with the internet is easy, The days of the back and forth, then back and forth to the sales manager B.S. are over for me.
If they won't give their best price up front and I can verify it is a good price, I don't bother going to them. Trade ins just look it up and be honest about your condition, packages and upgrades you have done really mean nothing at trade in time.

They are very close in power, like others said the new 2.2L got some nice upgrades over the years and it's a peppy engine. I have a 2011 LS with the 2.2L auto and I drove from AZ to NH with it loaded to the gills full of my junk and I had ZERO issues with power...and got 28 MPG the whole way. Not bad for a weighted down HHR. When I bought mine I test drove one with the 2.4L and seriously it was very hard to tell the difference expect that the 2.4 has a deeper grunt. Probably a little better passing power but you can easily make up for that with a 5 speed.
