Interesting idea Joey. Has anyone actually tried it and gotten diesel type MPG numbers?

I'm sure it has been done somewhere. I know that many municipalities use E95 in their diesel vehicles like buses. Not sure what the mileage numbers are on that but it works. Diesel engines can be modified to run on pure ethanol, which is pretty cool.

They are called HCCI engines (homogeneous combustion compression ignition) they are pretty much still experimental and they don't ramp up and down on RPMs very well. They excel at steady state points. They are much more efficient than regular CI engines.

E85

I tried 104 octane E85 in my SS and got much more 'seat of the pants' power. If I was going to the track I would put e85 in it for the power, but for day to day driving (IMHO) the power is not worth the mileage trade off. Maybe with the naturally asperated cars the extra power is worth it, but the turbo cars have plenty of power for street driving.

With gasoline my SS gets 22mpg @ 80, 29mpg @ 70 and 35+ with the cruise set at 65 here in flat Florida! My average in town (not big city) is 26-27 mpg. With this tank of E85 my average has been 22 mpg. On the freeway with the cruise set @ 65 the instant mpg hovered around 25, 10 mpg short of gasoline.

Great power, but for me not worth the price.

BTW: I only saved 4 cents per gallon when I used my Debit Card at the Sunoco station

The only time I have seen my temp run over 199 (ran 207 for a while) was with the E85 and my Check Engine Light came on and is still on.

That's my experience with one tank full of E85

Compression ignition is what a diesel is; have you seen any performance numbers with a diesel modified for E85? E85 is cheaper than diesel so there is the potential to SAVE some money in diesel cars.

efficiency is better like my initial post but the problem is with ramping the RPMs
