Best muffler for 2.2 ?

Just wondering what is the best muffler for the 2.2 ? I'm using a K&N filter in the stock air box and I want to get better flow from the exhaust without buying a catback. Thanks

IMCO seem to be the popular muffler, and Magnaflow.

I installed a stainless 18" magnaflow. Sounds nice, did it about the same time as the CGS intake so can't tell you which mod made a better improvement;both seemed to get me 1 1/2 - 2 mpg on the road.

I have two 20'' magnaflows that sound pretty decent. I think a header would help quite a bit with sound though just from watching a lot of videos of cobalts.

I will be doing a complete exhaust system on my 2.2

I will be doing a complete exhaust system on my 2.2 soon. I am still researching how I want to do it. The Cobalt forums say put a 2.5 or 3 inch pipe on it all the way. The prevailing opinion here says it needs back pressure and you should use stock exhaust system or it will hurt performance and mileage. Right or wrong I am going to try it.
I think if you open up the intake and the exhaust and you do not tune for it you probably will not get much improvements. Correct the fuel and timing curves for the better breathing and I expect good things.
I am going to open mine up and if it helps or hurts performance and mileage I will post hard numbers and my opinions on here. If I am wrong there is several people here who can say I told you so. Curly

The right muffler for 2.2L

So the general opinion is that Magnaflow is a good muffler to invest in for a "NOT RICE SOUND". Am I correct in this assumption? Going to make that purchase sometime this week. Looking forward to a opinion. BIG THANKS

If you read the right threads, you will see most people actually use 2.25-2.5'' for 2.2's and 2.4's. Bigger pipe won't help unless your turbocharged.

The best way is to search youtube for videos of 2.2 cobalts. You can also try searching cobaltss.net
