Exclamation Cold air intake HELP!

I just put in a Cold air intake. Pipe and Filter is by spectre. Every time I start my 2008 LS HHR is sounds like its choking itself out. I reset my ECM and that didnt work. The MAF sensor is going in the right direction. Vacuum hose is hooked up. After i drive it for a little while it starts working fine, but when i turn it off for a while a restart it it starts acting up again. One thing I found out is that whenever I unplug the MAF sensor it stops and sounds perfect. but I still dont know what to do to fix it.. Help me out guys!

Maybe you have a bad MAF? I'd start with that if it is the only thing that shows a difference.

yea ive been reading more on it and it might be that. Like I said I unplug the MAF and it works so that kind of points straight to the MAF malfunctioning.

Kinda strange, guess it had no problem prior to the CAI, did you drop the MAF, or possibly overtighten it ?

nope im still trying to run the MAF I took it off and im making sure everything is sealed properly. If that doesnt fix it i might have to drop money into another MAF.

I looks like you are saying that you used piping and filter from Spectre but does this include a MAF adapter? If not what type of MAF adapter are you using? I have seen several different tube diameters for the MAF adapters. Using a tube diameter or a differnet then stock mounting depth of the MAF itself within the tube will alter the reading that the MAF provides to the computer. I see various thicknesses of the weld on MAF adapter plates as well so this too can cause the same effects.

Have you tried to clean the MAF, I have seen K&N Filters cause MAF issues. They come over oiled and can leave the residue on the MAF wires. I had that happen to my TBSS after I install a FIPK kit.

I was completely delicate with the MAF because I know how fragile it is. Does the MAF which looks like a 1 inch wide by 2 inch long rectangle have to extend all the way to the other side of the tube? if so theres the problem. tube is to big. but i did spot what looks like oxidizing on the MAF wires.

Whenever I had to rest my 2000 eclipse it took about a good 50 miles for it to relearn. During that time it would sputter at idle and want to die at stops.

IDK with the HHR but did you reset ecu then let it sit idling so it could relearn closed loop. Then drive it to get into open loop?
