On top of that, pending the temp, humidity and altitude, the numbers can vary greatly. What gets 150HP here in TN, may only get 125HP in Montana. It's all relative to where you live and what the weather is doing at that time peorid.

I went with the AiRaid unit have not been dissapointed with the product. This was one of the first upgrades I made to my HHR & while the price seemed high initially, the quality & function of the unit is very good! Installation & maintenance is pretty easy. The filter element is very similar to a K & N filter which I have in my dirt bike so it was pretty easy for me to choose this type of air filter system because I have the filter cleaner (not included with the kit) & filter oil (included with the kit). The big plus with a 'box' type air filter system is that the housing shields water, engine heat & other unwanted debri away from the filter element. I wanted to be able to drive in pouring rain, splash through puddles, drive through snow, heat etc & not have any problems with stuff getting sucked into the engine. The top of the AiRaid box has a rubber seal that fits tightly to the hood & seals out the elements.

"Snorkel' or 'Pod' type add-on filters that hang out in the engine bay are susceptible to the elements & are not shielded from the engine heat (which is quite high in the engine bay). Cold air is better than hot air going into the motor.
Performance-wise I dont have any way of comparing the Airaid to a stock unit but anyody knows that you get better power and better gas mileage when you can get air into & out of the engine easier.

panels4life ever thought about doing a hood scoop that functions? seems like with the airaid box setup it seals itself against the hood... if i didnt have a warranty i would probably do it myself lol

Good idea. It would look cool for sure. But for me personally I want a daily driver. Having an opening on the hood would allow rain water to suck into the motor & I dont want to have to worry about that.

Just another vote for the Airaid here....when I had my 2.4l i had the airaid and loved it...sounded pretty mean for a 4 cylinder

I also had the K and N....was a waist of money. K&N drop in filter is better than the K&N cai IMO

Yeah but my cgs may have cost a little more on my 2008 ls 2.2, but for the extra 20 hp it's worth it and it looks great...Went from 17 mpg to 22 around town and 36 on the hiway.

k&n seems to be a better choice, the sealed box keeps hot engine air out of the way.
