Cooling Fans

Anyone tried larger Cooling fans for there HHR. I noticed several places that sell Cooling Fans 14" or 16" that put out about 2100 to 3000 CFM's and I would think a cooler motor would help performance?

They don't come on on mine even in spirited driving, only in standing traffic in warm weather. Look at the coolant temp display on the DIC, the fans seem to come on about 205, normal running is never higher than 195 for me.

Well Buffalo is not known for there slightly warm weather like in Texas. I have not had mine long enough to run around during Aug. when its 110 in the shade! Might have to look into it if things heat up!

Time to change the profile...
Even so, the point is that unless you can change the setpoints for the fans, all it does is better maintain the top temperature, I'd bet that in any climate the fans won't be running while at speed if GM got their cooling sizing calculations right. Electric fans aren't that powerful compared to the ram effect.
On F-bodies, there's software that allows the setpoints in the ECM to be changed (I think there's a low and high speed setting), but I don't think it exists for the HHR, and I assume that the control architecture is common, GM seems to be standardizing on such things these days.

Rockford (I wen't to a great Def Lepard show their it was good times)!!!

I understand what your saying I was thinking it might cool the interior around the motor having a larger fan and keep the car running cooler but at speeds like you said its not running anyway. So only if your at a stop and it runs will it help but it will only stabalize the heat and turn off so no improvment there!

got it, well it was a thougth?

Good thing I found that kept my old HHR cool was doing the 3-bar grill. Bigger opening for more air flow. My temps (on the DIC) dropped on average 10-15 degrees. Most of the time even cooler! Idle at the start of a 1/4 mile run was 192.. at the end I would be around 175-178 after a 16 second pass at 89mph. That was a wide open throttle run obviously. If you're looking for cooler temps and a "cooler" ride overall its a good mod!
