Custom Air intake

Okay I am about ready to finally put my desings into someting real. I am going off the K&N design with an inclosed box and that is where the similarities end. I want to have a tube come out of both sides of the box and snake them behind the front grill to pick up the coldest possible air and get some ramair effect off of it. I have found that i can get around the drivers side of the radiator but i cannot seem to find a way around the passengers side. So my solution to this was to either just have it ggrab cold air out of the fender like the stocker or see if anyone here had ne other ideas to get it behind the grill. I thnk i am also going to include the 3 bar grill mod to let a little more air through there. I want to know if you guys think this would supply some more hp over stock. I plan on having before and after dynos done.

I would have preferred you use PVC pipe instead of metal. The metal is going to heat soak and you want the air as cool as possible (cooler air = denser air)

Please, can you "market" this too us with a filter for $200, no wait, $300 dollars. Make sure the dyno saids 30hp gain at the rear wheels too, of course with no torque loss and with a constant "area under both those power curves".

just ordered the filter, big honkin thing from summitracing. 8 in tall with a 5 in base and 3 in inlet cone filter. think this will flow enough to get some gains. also does ne one know where i can get a mount for the maf. i was going to go to the junkyard and get a airbox off a cobalt since i think they use the same maf and just hack it off the box.

okay first problem. I really dont want to make my own maf mount so does anyone know where i can get one prefabbed on a 3 in tube? otherwise i have enough metal left over from the box that i can make one.

masterchief, the MAF mount is not the real problem that you are going to have. That can be done easily. Any good fabricator can do that.

Where you are going to run into a MAJOR problem is that the O.D. of the tubing is going to increase considerably compared to stock. The MAF will no longer be able to report the correct airflow to the ECM. The MAF Transfer Function Tables will be WAY out of whack! Unless you can find someone to recalibrate those tables, get ready for CELs, and ECM problems.

Tuning for the 2.2 ECMs is very scarce right now. The only one that I'm aware of is Trifecta Tuning in CA. You might want to talk to them before going any further.
