I built my own,the filter is in the fender up behind the headlight. Cut out the foglight cover to get a little more air.Been running with this setup for a couple of years now,its a great system that doesn't cost much to build What part of Fl. Swerv?

The GMPP doesn't throw codes, some of the others might cause a check engine light (code). None of the intakes should cause any harm, (like you mentioned) other than a code which is more of a hassle. Cheap ones may have a "less than proper" air filter... Grit in your engine due to lack of filtering will, of course, cause harm eventually.

If you can find the GMPP, they aren't necessarily cheap... I got mine used from the forum classified section.

Here's one source... http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm

The part number is 19159206 so you can look around for pricing. They don't make this anymore from what I understand so quantities will be limited and "out of stock" could be a possibility.

Hey everyone, for the airaid intake system would you recomend the oiled version(synthaflow) or the dry version (synthamax).

I don't know a lot about HHR's yet, as I also am new here, but I do have plenty of experience with other vehicles and I would stick a GOOD dry filter, the dry version (synthamax). It is always easy to over oil a filter and and this can cause code to be thrown and oil to be sucked into the TB. Not a disaster but not good. The only area that I would go with an oiled filter over a dry filter is in the sand (dunes, beach or the like) and then I would also use a good prefilter. And believe it or not pantyhose makes a great prefilter and much cheaper than Outerwear or other brand name prefilters but works great. I've spent plenty of time in the sand, Glamis, Sand Mt. NV, Coos Bay and White Water all places where good filters are mandatory.

I would shoot for a GM approved AEM* dryflow air filter.. It's what GM used in the GMPP CAI boxes..
