Info Regaurding Air intakes.
Alright thanks. Now that tube just there to help draw in cooler air away from the engine. now is it alright to leave it off. I want to run a different hose but may need that one off for a day or two. Still safe to drive?
Yeah, it just fits in that hole. You could replace it with just about whatever you wanted. (that can take the heat) The thing with the stock unit is, that material it's made of catches some larger junk, (leaf bits, bugs, whatever) acting somewhat like a "pre-filter".

Yes you can run with out the "wooly worm" tubing.. It will just draw hotter underhood air..

I know there are many updates on the different air intakes, but everyone has their own opinion so heres mine..
the airaid filter was very easy to install, took about 45 minutes. I have noticed about a one to two mile per gallon increase around town. Im getting about 28mpg now in the city, and yes its a lot of stop and go traffic. It does feel a little bit faster but not much. Biggest improvement to me is that the powerband seems to be smoother. Just seems to accelerate more steadily now. Much louder when you step on the gas. I love it. Would be my second favorite mod to my hhr, second to the SS spoiler.

Just another update on the airaid intake. Its been around ninety degrees here the past week and I have noticed powerloss in the engine. This past weekend I was driving around town with the A/C on and when stopped at a red light the intake temp went from around ninety degrees to over 120 in about two minutes. And when you step on the gas there is no power. Once I get moving the intake temp comes back down.
Now obviously hot air rises so since the intake sits above the engine it gets hot fast when stopped. My wifes Mazda 3 is different. The intake sits off to the left of the engine and does not go over 100 degrees when driving in the city.
So with the hhr im assuming its a product of how the intake is positioned under the hood.

Jegs / Summit & plenty of other places sell heat wrap that is very effective,..
Hey swerv I know this is old topic but you should def look into reflectix heatshielding. It's 16 bucks at Lowes, and easy to wrap the bottom of your box. It completely eliminated my heatsoak. :-) I just wrapped two layers cut to fit around the contours and using extreme duty double sided tape between the shielding and box and between layers. Then taped down with metal tape. I made a huge difference in my power drop off in hot weather. Now I can run for hours pop the hood and the too of my intake box is barely warm often times cooler than surrounding bits like fuse box cover.
