Hey I agree if it works it works.
I have tested the ss with Electronics that are very accurate and with the ss stock tune
it feels faster with the lid removed sounds faster but actually accelerates slower.
Now on a naturally aspirated 2.4 or 2.2 anything is possible.
maybe you are getting some air in from the front that is not as hot as I would think it would be.

Nice
If you could fashion a heat shield around it would help a lot.
I just purchased my 2011 hhr a cpl months ago and while I plan on buying a quality intake and trifecta tune and exhaust, I can't stand to leave anything stock. I actually went with a k&n dropin filter, didn't like it and after a hot day it was thoroughly heat soaked. So I removed the inlet tube, removed the factory filter from the housing bolted on an aem dryflow cone filter to where the inlet meets the housing. I also wrapped the bottom of my box in heat shielding and the corner of the block under the filter plus used black 4 inch corrugated plastic around the bottom of the filter. Big tip, the material of the dryflow filters don't hold heat like cotton woven around a wire mesh. I'm normally a huge k&n fan but that style filter where there is metal in the mesh gets heat soaked. Try an AEM dryflow. I also put in hyper lube coolant additive, royal purple oil, and pulstar iridium pulse plugs. I now get 38mpg if I keep it below 65 and around 34mpg at 70 to 80mph.
