Shimmy

Hi Folks,
I have an '06 automatic (still has 4 1/2 months left on the warranty) and this afternoon as I was coming down a hill (I promise I was below the speed limit ) HHRvey began to shimmy in the front. He has NEVER done that before, and I go up and down hills every day. I have babied this car. It only has 19,600 miles on it, and I am the only one who drives it.

I have not hit or run over anything so I was troubled about this. The car seems to be vibrating from the steering column to the front end.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much for your help

A little more information is necessary....

As you decended the hill, did you apply the brakes...even slightly. If the wobble occurred doing this, you probably have the infamous rotor warp.

If not....give some more description of when the wobble occurred....while turning. at certain speed (s), etc.

Hi Snoopy,
Yes, I did slightly apply the brakes as I descended the hill and was bearing to the left as I was exiting.

Any vibration on level roads above 40mph or so? Have any wheel weights come off, may see the marks on the rim where they were if they came off. If only while applying the brakes then Snoopy had the answer.

Hi '08,
Just today I was checking to see if the car vibrated on level roads and it did not. However, I will take a look at the rims the next time I go outside just to make sure.

Are the rotors a warranty issue, or is this something that will need to come out of pocket? Thanks everyone for your input!

Warranty question........you stated your car is an 06' so is your car still under 3 years/36,000 miles. If so, generally is a dealer warranty issue.

Also....do you still have the problem when traveling straight and applying the brakes? You should feel the "wobble" in the brake pedal and maybe the steering wheel, when you apply the brakes light to moderately.

Alot of people on the site have had the rotor problem, I'm one of them. I had them cut twice, replaced with aftermarket drilled and slotted and now Saturday I'm going in again for the same problem with the vibration in the pedal. I'm curious if there is something else they (GM) can do to either resolve this problem or if I can file it under the lemon law or something.

Smile tsb

I found a technical service bulletin from GM for rotor pulsation problems. TSB number 08-05-23-003 states about adding a rotor splash shield to keep dust, durt, and debris away from the rotors and pads. your local dealer should be able to pull up this tsb number. I had my brakes done at 6000 miles but I need to check on getting this tsb installed.
