the ecm's are different from the HHR and cobalt

different settings, different BCM's as well

we are still waiting on finishing our tune with our supercharged hhr

its on the car and functional

we used the cavalier 2.2 GM supercharger package.. only thing different were injectors and had to make new line for A/C

we wont get a chance to tune ours for another month or 2 because of the vehicle needing to be at autoshows all over the country.

There is ONE exception. If you have a 2007 HHR with the new 2.2 Ecotec ECM which is identified as having a coil-on-plug ignition system you are lucky. These engines can be tuned by HPTuners. Changing an 06 2.2 to and 07 2.2 is VERY costly and not worth the trouble.

For those INTENT on getting forced induction you would have to convert your HHR to a stand-alone management system like Megasquirt etc... They are also costly and require a LOT of knowledge for Fuel Mapping, Ignition timing, MAP sensor readings, and general engine management. This is not for the average shade tree mechanic. Although there is a LOT you can do with one such system please do your research and find one that is good for you.

I hope this info is useful to some that come in and anyone that has anything to add please feel free to do so. I am just trying to make sure people don't get their hopes up with advertised "bolt on" applications for Turbos/Superchargers for these awesome autos!

EDIT:: Piggy backing systems may work on the 2.2 since it doesn't actually edit the HHR ECM coding. These kinds of systems do just what they say, they ride the back of your ECM and CHANGE what the ECM "sees" to make the ECM put out more fuel or possibly "hide" a positive manifold pressure (boost).

Apex'i AFC setups DO NOT work on the ECM for ANY of the newer ecotecs. 2.0/2.2/2.4
I have the )& 2.2 can you send me the info for the hp tuner setup?

Check with CobaltSS.net. No one on this board has done a HPTuned 2.2 yet. Or check with hptuners' website. They may have some usefull info there! :twothumbs

Please realize I'm not knocking anyone's just I guess I'm asking for opinions from 2.2 owners........

Why get the 2.2 and not the 2.4 if you plan on performance mods? I just think it would make sense to START with an extra 30hp. People are doing intake, exhaust and other thing and still haven't gotten to what the 2.4 does stock.

With the same mods PLUS a tune, I've got my 2.4 over HP. Its gonna take a bit to get a 2.2 to that level.

Again, I'm not bashing, just thinking out loud.

I (my wife) didn`t buy the HHR with speed in mind, but the engine that would accomodate a supercharger is most likely a 2.2L .

That is exactly correct, i don't have any plans to force feed my HHR any time soon but its nice to know that i can. Plus i don't really like the VVT, you are alot more limited by it than you are helped, i just don't want a car with lag that doesn't have a turbo.

The VVT system isn't "lagged" like a VTEC system would be. The way the VVT system works is completely different. VVT is active ALL the time. All it does is adv/ret the cams to get better performance. NOTHING like VTEC. You would actually see MORE gains from force feeding the 2.4 than the 2.2 since the engine will adjust the cams accordingly!

Okay, so again.....why a 2.2 and not a 2.4? Why 140hp not 170hp?
