Turbo for the 2.2?
#2
2.2 is the same as 2.4
As far as I know the 2.2 and 2.4 are basically the same just a little more CC's.
The problems and results would be the same with 2.2 or 2.4. The Cobalt SS forum has a bunch of people turboing and supercharging them. You might check out there for more info. Most people here are doing simple bolt ons Intake, exhaust and ECM tunes. There is one guy here who has fabricated and installed a supercharger (I think it was off of a SS Cobalt?) on his and it looks pretty nice and appariently runs very good but I is not a simple bolt on. I do not know how you get it through Emissions when it is heavily modified. Maybe someone here will speak up and help you there. It is a pretty big project to get it right but when it is done the performance can be very good.
Remember horsepower costs money, how fast do you want to go? There are no free rides. Every increase in performance uses more gas (when your foot is in it) and can decrease the durability of the block.

We've done a bunch of work with Cobalt owners that have either turboed or supercharged their 2.2s. The last dyno chart I saw showed 260 WHP on a 2.2 through an automatic (2005 Cobalt).
Most of the Cobalt owners are installing the Garrett kit, some have adapted the Hahn kit, and others built their own system. Others have transplanted the LSJ supercharger from the Cobalt SS/SC.
