Unheard of HHR intakes battle

Iv been reading for Hr's now on past and present treads on Intakes: So far what iv gathered is that the...

CGS intake"" looks cool and thats about it. Minor if not no Gains vs stock.
Air raid: prob only good as stock, mabey better at high speeds.

K&N Intake kit ^^ same as above

K&N filter (only) to replace stock : BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK (not counting looks)

In an attempt to find another intake and an honest A/B DYNO I found theese:

Here's my 2 cents worth

Here's my opinions and how I rank them for what it is worth. All of these I think the biggest improvements is in looks and sound, performance and mileage is questionable.
1. GMPP - Very nice but way over priced.
2. Airiad = Good cold air system reasonable price. Should be first choice for most people due to price. Sounds good.
3. K & N cold air filter system. Decent but overpriced.
4. CGS - Sounds better than stock but that is all. Draws hot air from engine compartment. Looks good but any improvements in performance or mileage is questionable.
5. Weapon R= Save your money draws hot air from engine compartment and looks like a really cheap filter. No bang for buck.
6. K &N drop in filter- Save your money I do not think it is any better than the stock paper filter. MAY breathe a little better but I do not think it filters as good and does not even have as much surface area as the stock paper filter. May be a step backwards.....

The first three will sound better and give you a little better performance and mileage but nothing to write home about. The bottom three may even hurt performance and mileage some. None will give you huge gains.
I believe the best one by far for the money is the Airiad but even with that I do not know exactly how much it has helped. After I get most all of my mods done I may swap back to stock filter for a while to see how much it hurts it.
Still I know with my car the filter, exhaust and other mods will not really pay off until I get the Trifecta Tune to calibrate it all to work together.

I have the CGS on my LS. Looks great. Performance and mileage hasn't really changed.
Can't really say about the sound, since I have a Magnaflow muffler...

I have a CGS unit, like the sound, modest gain in MPH, unless you happen to like the sound. You like it so much that you accelerate more often just to hear it, which nullifies any gain.
I like that the Weapon R has a foam filter as they usually allow higher flow without sacrificing effeciency. K & N type gauze filters let in high flow, also a lot more dirt. I replace my standard CGS filter element with an Amsoil nanofilter to get better effiency from my CGS intake.

just recieved

i just got 2 filters i got off ebay. napa gold-cabin air , and intake. it's the 1st time i've seen how big the factory intake filter is. it is really, really big compared to any filter i've seen , even on v-6s and v-8s. i have been ragging about how i thought the factory intake housing looks like a boat anchor. with a little modification it may be just as good as any. chrome and polished aluminum is for looks and little else. i think that insulated duct thing may need to go.

1) How about a CGS...with cold air tubing that runs down to the plastic knock out of a fog light insert.

2) Can anyone confirm that the airraid is not a sealed enclosure, it in fact has an open front?

3) My 2.4 intake manifold is on the way. Are there any "be carefuls" for considering a new intake now??

THanks for the help in advance

the cgs will still pull hot air in the engine compartment. it may be a little cooler. and the airraid is not a sealed enclosure.

Hmmmm. Ya. Ive decided that i dont look under the hood enuf to appreciate the CGS, no shell the dough for small gains on an airaid (although im sure the itch will come back)

So...i have decided to put my money into a 2.4 exauhst manifold to be installed with the 2.4 intake i have comin

well see what happens.
