HHR With Dual Exhaust Spotted!

In Ontario Canada:

This was sent in by one of our customers and is the first HHR with duals spotted driving on the street. I'm waiting for details, but from what I can gather - this vehicle breaks several safety regulations:

1) the passenger side of the fuel tank does not have any metal heat shielding and the fuel tank is plastic. This means a hot exhaust pipe will be running in close proximity to the unprotected tank.

2) the fuel tank inlet hose (rubber), and EGR hoses crossover right above where a second pipe would be located - these can easily melt.

3) The HHR's EGR canister (also plastic) is located right in the center where hot exhaust pipes would cross over - another melting danger.

Here is a composite pic we made while trying to design a dual add-on system:

Take a good look at where a second pipe might run and you can see the many explosion dangers we found.

I'm waiting to hear back from the owner about what he finds.

Personally, I would be afraid to drive my familiy around in it!

But it does look verrrrrrry cool!

Now thats exactly what i wanted to do, but had no idea of the dangers involved. Hopefully i can one day without too much modification!

It looks really good. Too bad they put on that vinyl woody kit.

Is it possible that the 2nd pipe is strictly for looks (not connected to anything), such as the side pipes seen on some custom HHRs? In that case, no dangers involved.

If you ran it across the spare, it would hang down too low and be seen, as the spare compatment sits the lowest back there.

It could be cosmetic, but I think many owners want to see condensation coming out of both pipes - don't you? A Y-pipe is the solution we were looking for, but every effort so far has proved fruitless. Still trying to design a safe way to do this.

If the owner of this HHR gets back to me with pics, we might see a new way to go about it. Time will tell...
