It really is normal and will go away after a little while. I'd check to make sure there are no clearance issues just in case though.

No smells coming from my HHR whatsoever. I doubt you'll find anything besides "butt dynos" on the IMCO for the HHR Joe. It's a relatively inexpensive part to purchase and in my mind I can't see anyone spending money on a dyno test.
My boyfriend has been a little skeptical when I do the "performance mods" for the HHR, however, after I do each one, I let him drive the car and he can feel the difference. Trust me, he was pleasantly surprised after each one and I did them one by one.
First the IMCO, then the CGS, then the Bosch +4 plugs and he couldn't believe how much better it performed after each one. If we were talking about a high performance car, I could see the expense, but most of us would rather spend the "dyno money" on more mods.
I'm sure if you purchased the IMCO and had these tests done, others would love to hear the results. For less than $400, my car has more zip and I don't feel the need to have numbers on paper to back it up...my butt dyno works just fine.
