No GMPP WTF??? Feedback Please!!!
Ok so I've been checking into some mods for next spring... Performance parts mainly since GM has it's own division and I have a warranty I want to preserve. From what I researched on this site I found that you could use GMPP #19159206 (CAI) on the HHR. Called my parts dept said they could get it for $380 and I had them transfer me over to service to get quote on installation (noob 2 engine work). Initially I was told that they would do it and it would not void the warranty since it is a GMPP. Then he asked what the part was and what it is going on. He then said no no no. They will not install it and it will void warranty because of a previous install... a cobalt. I told him it's a GMPP though. I was told it doesn't matter, this cobalt owner had all sorts of problems out of his vehicle with the GMPP CAI to the point he got rid of the car and then he ADVISED I not install any GMPP or any aftermarket parts at that... WTF? Looking for plenty of feed back on this one... issues with gmpp's, "rogue servie dept
" or what.

I guess I better say.....
I have had a GMPP intake longer than anyone on this forum. In fact, I was one of 10 original test consumers, before the part was introduced to the market (and after "in house" testing).
I have NOT had one problem OF ANY KIND. Vehicle is only slightly louder under partial and full throttle).
My ONLY COMPLAINT......it tends to be expensive for the amount of benefit....4 REAL USEABLE HP (GM's dyno's) and about 1-1 1/2 MPG gain (under the same driving conditions). But, neither really matter to me, since I received it as a perk for participating in the test program
.
That being said......make your own decision BUT your DEALER is BSing you.
Where do you live specifically.....hell, I'll install it in 45-60 minutes for you. But, based on the documentation I was given, anyone with very little mechanical ability can install it.
By the way, originally I had an exempt emissions sticker given to me, as a test vehicle. The GMPP intake is NOW CARB approved (notice....not pending) and I just installed that approval sticker before leaving on vacation.

Find a new Dealer, Its covered under warranty regardless Unless GM can prove it caused the problem. I ordered one and im waiting for it to arrive. I'm probably going to have the dealer install just because the car has 1500 miles on it.
Cost to install it will be around $75 Bucks. Also You can get it cheaper from Gmdirectparts.com. Also even know the dealer told you $380 it will be higher they will charge you for shipping and taxes etc.
I say go For it.

You can install the intake yourself and save that money. The install is very straight forward.
Thank You to everyone with the valuable feed back and info!!!
So in talking with the Service manager again he says this CAI caused all sorts of codes in the cpu to ring in. Chevy would alway tell them to program it this way or that way and still alarms or codes ring in. I asked why the customer just didn't put back on the OEM he said he didn't know. So I was starting to believe this really is BS. So I called another dealer today and the service manager said he wouldn't reccomend it either because the parts aren't made for hhr... doesn't hhr and cobalt have same engines??? So that's two.(Something fishy going on in Louisville.) I have a 2.4 eco in mine. There are three other dealers I can call tomorrow and one over in Indiana, maybe I'll get better luck then.
Has anyone heard of or had these "codes or alarms" ring in with the GMPP CAI? I find this hard to believe as well... I guess another question would be are there any cons of this part besides shelling out 350+ dollars?

I find it hard to believe that "Its not made for the HHR" When its on the GM site as a Performance Option for the HHR..
I've never had any type of Code get thrown with a CAI and i have had them on 2 GM's and 1 Dodge. I'd say u got some ****ty Service Dept down there.
Considering they make half there money off service u would think they would be ok with it.

I realize this, I've installed a few of them just not one in the Worlds smallest Engine bay, I'm going to call the dealer and ask how much. I'm not sure which one I'm going to do yet.
Alot of it depends on how much time i have.
