I bought an Black '06 LT2 back in February when I was home on leave. Since then, I've been lurking the forum, learning as much as I can. I've already purchased tons of goodies (18" Black Sacchi wheels and tires, dash kit, another grille and mesh for a 3 bar project, navigation, etc.) all sitting in boxes at home waiting for my return in the summer.
Anyway, I wanted to do some performance mods. The first and most obvious would be a high-flow/cold air filter. After a lot of research on the forum, I was going to go with the K&N, but then I started seeing posts about engine warning lights and watnot.
One of the posts showed a GM replacement cold-air kit for an '08.
My questions are:
Will it fit an '06?
If not, is there an OEM cold air kit available?
Is there any kit available that will not make the sensors go haywire?
I'll modify, cut, paint, scrape, drill and generally experiment with appearance mods all day long. In the end, they don't tend to affect drivability. But when it comes to performance mods, but I'd rather not have to tweek stuff, especially when it comes to the engine...I'm a bolt on and ride kinda guy...

This is the first time that I heard that GM had a cold air intake kit. I was looking at the K&N and went on there website where they said that they would back up there product, if GM said that there K&N filter caused engine problems. I would rather bypass the hassle and go with the GM. Could U help and point me to a part number or web page?

Whever intake you like, keep this in mind. Don't expect an increase in either power or gas mileage. Why? The factory intake is very efficient and has no loss all the way to redline. I've confirmed this with data logging. Also, it is a cold air intake and temps do have an effect on power.
Bottom line: Go for looks and / or sound. Don't expect much else, though.

But I also agree that the stock intake is very good and agree with the second part.
I can tell you that having an after-market intake will definetly add power. I recently sold my CGS and can tell there has been a decrease in power. Also, cold air definetly = more HP. Myself, I am going to purchase the airaid intake which claims an 8 HP increase, k&n reports 9.3 HP increase...
I've had the K&N unit almost from the time the car has been new and never had any problems. It did make a small noticeble difference in power. 9HP...I don't know about that but I did get 35 MPG on a 8.5 hour trip this past weekend. I wonder if the stock filter would have shown the same results. All in all, I'm very happy. I did it most for looks and sound.

I regularly get 33-36 highway with the factory filter box...and a NAPA paper filter.
One thing I don't get is the "K&N stumble" I experienced on my Sonoma and Blazer after I installed K&N filters and the MAF sensor became coated with oil.
9 HP is amazing for units that don't flow any more air or any colder than stock.
