Been running K&N filters, both the drop in and the FIPK's for over 15 years. Never had any issues with the MAF. Maybe they were over oiled at some point (even factory).

I wonder if the stock filter would have shown the same results. All in all, I'm very happy. I did it most for looks and sound.
Same here. Identical results and observations with mine.

The only time I have seen oil build up on the MAF sensor is when someone used those recharge kits and used too much oil after they cleaned the filter. K&N now has oil less filters which claim to be just as good as the oiled ones which is the way I would go. I have used the oiled K&N on almost everything of mine for years and never had a problem with excess oil build up on the MAF.

But I also agree that the stock intake is very good and agree with the second part.
Re: 1st part.... Solman, we are in 100% agreement on intake air temps vs power. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Actually the HP will vary about 1% for every 10* F change in temp, hotter resulting in less HP, colder in more.

OK OK OK...
SO what I'm selectively hearing is that the K&N, properly or lightly oiled, will not cause an idiot light to come on and I can expect a small increase in HP and economy...Every body is generally happy with it so it's worth the 2 and a half beans...

The "recharge" oil for K&N used to come in a "squeeze" bottle. If you were not careful, you could overoil them. The last kit I picked up actually had a spray bottle to re-oil. Made doing the proper coating much easier IMO. I never had any problems the old way, but some did.
