Oil / fuel Additives
Oil / fuel Additives
well allthis talk about people using syn oil and etc.. no one has really talked about different additives, at least ones they think work, and yes i did search.
What are some things you can put in your oil for extra or added performance?
I used to use in an old Camaro i had was this stuff called "restore" in a silver can; you just pour it in after an oil change, supposed to 'restore' lost compression, etc..i think it atually did work in my camaro.
...and speaking of oil changes, is it good to use that stuff called "block flush" or engine flush, that you pour into the oil right before you change the oil, supposed to "flush" all the crap out of the engine block.
I do know that alot of magazines and etc used to advertise things like Slick 50, and some of those other old school things that were supposed to increase lubrication in the engines, but then ppl found out it had some chemical that could harm engine parts and even clog up the oil
For fuel additives, in my old camaro and now even in my Vette, and Harley F-150, i did and do at times use octane booster. The main one is called 104+ and it comes in a red or black bottle. I also used one called "outlaw" but i didnt really notice anyting different when haulin ass like when using the other one. There are also some products ive seen that say "Warning for off road use only" and it lists some chemical on the bottle that makes it "illegal".. I asked the guy at the pep boys and he was like any car can use it on the street. As for the warning he said that it supposedy does make the car go faster, so its illegal, but how would he know? plus i dont think ive heard of the chemical thats on those bottle of booster.
anyway, what are soe of the products that you all use? and ones that you really think do work, as i know alot of them are marketing scams and a waste of money.

The only thing I have changed is going from a conventional oil to Mobil 1 synthetic. I've noticed slightly better mileage and engine RPM has dropped 100-250 when cruising at speed.
As for fuel/oil additives I believe I read somewhere that GM does not recommend the use of any additives. I don't know if it's becuase the stuff might harm the engine.
A good synthetic oil should help the engine. If you want more pep use a premium gasoline instead of pouring in some additive. It'll probably cost about the same either way.
Of course, I'm no expert

If that's the case dnb then I wonder why my car is running so much better now. I figured the oil must be helping to reduce the RPM. I just had the oil changed from convetional to synthetic. I'm well past the break in period. Same tank of gas as before the oil change and my rpm's have dropped from around 2200 to 1900 when cruising at 80 to 90km/h.
