Talking Power upgrades for the HHR

I recently purchased a HHR with the manual and have been researching power options for it. I would like to do a STS turbo conversion or any other turbo/ supercharger systems but saw that there seems to be a problim trying to calibrate the engine managment software. I also have seen that there are several ideas out there for what best upgrades to provide the most power for the HHR. I was wondering if anyone has evidence that thiers it the best with dyno results. Also a list list parts used and cost of them to evaluate thier price to performance.

Welcome!!

At this point there are no turbos for the 2.4 wich have proven to be able to be tuned right.

I have done no dynos so I don't know how much my opinion/experience will count for you.

I have installed the CGS intake; considerable difference, company estimates 8hp gain, I'd say that's about right. $200+

I have a custom exhaust, Thrush muffler split to two Walker resonators/dual tip side pipes. Breathes much better, and noticible power gain. Better sound also. $800+.

ECM/PCM tune by Tune Time, a supporting vendor here. MAJOR difference!! Changed shift points, fuel mix set for 93 octane, changed rev limiter, etc.....$350 in a group buy.

The tune really made the biggest difference. of course by them I'd already done the other mods. I do have some things planned for the future but don't think I'll see anything that will make as much a gain as what i've gotten until someone breaks the code for a turbo.

Another member claims to have a module which added 50hp to a stock 2.4. Who knows...said it was a prototype that they are running for the company that is sponsoring them. Won't disclose who it is though. I have my doubts, but can't say one way or another.

I know SoCal did some dyno testing between CGS and Airaid, but lots of debate concerning the results......

dyno test

Most "dyno" results posted on the forum here are "seat of the pants" dynos!
