price of GMPP CAI
It has been mentioned many times. Its not only about the hp increase(which is minimal I will admit), but it gets rid of the big black turtle shell, looks nice and is easier to clean the filter.
Speaking as someone who has tried 3 different exhausts and the GMPP CAI, to now recently going back to stock. Combined THEY do make a difference. Was it worth the $600 spent on them? Probably not...but if you are looking for some improvement its better than nothing.
Exhausts tried.
IMCO Turbo
Flowmaster 40
CGS Axle-back
Stock of course
I tried all of the above with the GMPP CAI installed and could tell a difference between each one. Ironically the IMCO/GMPP seemed to produced the best seat of the pants experience. They weren't huge improvements, but a PCM tune, CAI, and Exhaust does result in a discernible increase.
It provides a little better throttle response, but its $400. The $180 PCMForless Tune that I did was far better an investment than any CAI or Exhaust, and that is something that you CAN feel a difference in.
Oh not being defensive at all. I loved it while I owned it. But the truth is, its increase isn't something that will blow you away and make your car magically faster.

I'm thinking about just fabbing my own, kinda like a CGS, but go thru the inner fender for outside air.. Time will tell..
The PCMforless sounds good tho, does this re-program the tranny as well ?
Hey Sleeper, The reason $400 sounds like a lot of money is because you are fully capable of making one yourself for less...and it would probably be better than the GMPP one.
Being a useless monkey, I did not have that capability so I bought a GMPP (I do like it).
I went out an pondered a fabricated intake. I see why GM picked where they did for the GMPP filter housing....it is one of the few places deep enough for a good conical filter. To the left is shallower, and has the timing gear lumps on the cam covers eating vertical space. It would also take out the wiper fluid bottle in the area.
Your idea is right.....mount the filter in the passenger fender well, and access from the wheelwell. I guess you could easily fab a wheelwell door for easier access? Would the filter still need a housing box? Might cut some noise.
I also thought about the plastic scoops made for older 5.0 Mustangs that were very shallow but wide, and hung beneath the left front bumper. It turned the air upwards into piping up to the filter housing. A similar scoop could divert air upwards to your filter, though I wouldn't bother plumbing it.
Hey, it's not like you don't have something to do......
God Bless, Marc

OK, Appreciate your input.. I personally can't justify the $400 clams..But nice looking set-up.

Yes I got the Tranny re-programmed as well. Two hard-shifts since its a daily driver.
PCM tune is the best investment you can make. If I had it to do over again I would probably go with a Trifecta tune, TomsHHR is a re-sellar for them..he is on this forum, so I would hit him up. You won't be disappointed with the tuned PCM.
