Hi all, I am new to forum. Been over at Chevytalk for a while but more reading than writing. Have a 2007 2LT, white with tan leather, 2.4l auto. Can hardly believe how much fun this little guy is. Was shocked at the ride, just does not feel like the small vehicle it is. It's garage mate is wife's 09 LTZ Tahoe black/black. They are referred to as Ebony and Ivory, but mostly big car, little car.

In looking around I found a review of "performance chips" that rated one from SLR Motorsports (http://slrmotorsports.com/) as best value. First I have read here that these do not have a replaceable eprom and all is flash to ecm. It reads well but the claims are about the same as the G-Force one rated badly in the same review. (http://www.performancechips.com/perf...p-reviews.html). Not sure who these guys are and how "arms length" they are.

Considering getting the 63 series K&N for both vehicles and the "chip", it claims no wire cutting or mods. I had a Vararam vr-6 on my previous 01 tahoe and saw no change, had added a Wait For Me tuned ecm and could not tell any difference except a lighter feeling wallet.

I have been getting 17 combined on the Hoe and about 26 on the HHR. Our combined is more highway, hilly interstate not all that much in town as there are not much in the way cities where we frequent. Live about 25 mi east of Asheville, NC. Make frequent runs to Augusta, GA. Last trip the Hoe got 20.5; last trip in HHR was to Florence, SC solo running about 75 (gently rolling interstate), air off, got around 28. HHR has 38k, Hoe 19k.

It will be interesting to see what the replacement vehicle comes out to be, if it is a Cruze base it should be nice.

I had searched the forum for SLR and found nothing. Look forward to lots of miles in these two rides.

 

All chips are Snake Oil. Run away from these type of products.

 

I bought one for my 2006 2lt installed made no change took it out, its somewhere in the garage just to remind me yhat there some junk out there.

 

Welcome fellow Carolinian! And to echo ChevyMgr and Jay, those gadgets aren't worth the money and time. You'll find more effective ways of finding more power without resorting to snake oil.

 

Ahhhh, it appears that SLR owns the site you used for the evaluation. That's like asking Jessie James to guard the bank......self serving.

I'd like to know how they fit that "chip" into the HHR....especially with the comment, "no wiring".


JoeR is the "specialist", here, on modifying the ECU/ECM on the HHR. Maybe he will see this and provide some insight.

 

I comes with 2 little clips you clip over the 2 wires, dont buy the SLR chip and you will get the same result as installing.

I could not find where it said no cutting of the wiring again but I am prety sure tht is what it said. It does look like SLR and Performancechips.com are one and the same.

Any comments on the 63 series K&N vs the 57? The 63 is not CARB cert but not an issue here. I am a little surprised at the number of folks that are having check engine light problems. I have had OE replacement K&N's in several vehicles and the Vararam with cone type filter and never had light on three other vehicles, two with MAFS.

 

Anything that claims more power and improved mileage is likely a con job. With the importance of fuel mileage to automakers today, they spend millions on R&D to find as much power and mileage as possible. They dyno test everything to get measurable results. Their vehicles are tuned to work with the stock components.

 

I agree with you, Don.....only to a certain point.

manufacturers squeeze every MPG from a vehicle but they must also comply with noise and emission requirements.....and some of those are restrictive and counter productive.
