starter or alternator?? helllpppp

I have a 2006 hhr. I was driving on the freeway and it just completely shut off. Tried restarting it and nothing you can just hear it clicking. I was told the alternator then they changed it to the starter. The battery was checked and charged at autozone. (Good battery) any info is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

If it shut down while driving, then it's not going to be the starter. Most likely the voltage dropped ( maybe from a bad alternator ) and that is what shut off the car.
Your going to need someone to do some hands on diagnostics to pinpoint the cause. Any internet guess will just be a guess of many possibilities.

So. After the battery was charged by AZ, did you try and start the car ? With a fully charged battery, it should have at least turned over or maybe even started.

Sounds like it could be a case of the fuse box separating, its happened to others. I think pushing the two sections together solved it, try a forum search.

Check the box retention under the hood. Make sure it's seated well, and all the fuses are tight.

The clicking makes it seem like a battery. How old is the battery you have? Original to the car?

And double check the ground wires at the transmission just down to the right of the oil filter housing while you are looking check the ground wire at the rad cradle just behind the hood bumper on the driver's side in the engine bay.
