2008 2.4 172 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque

Its only 3 hp but what did they change?

 

Maybe conditions at time of each testing, such as temperature, were a bit different.
Or maybe they just had a bunch of super squirrels to put in the 07s.

 

Aren't the 2008 numbers the same as the 2006 numbers??

I think 2007 was just an anamolous year.

 

The newer GM ratings are SAE Certified, same procedures, but need to have a SAE certified technician there. No changes in the engine, so the difference is well within the norm....

IOW, no big deal ---------- No changes.

 

'07's are SAE certified too. I have read that the difference for '07 had something to do with the catalyst. If I can find the article, I'll post it.

The certifications for all 2008 models are much tighter than the 2007. That is why the EPA numbers changed as well.

 

Yeah, I was thinking they tightened up emissions or fuel economy a bit.

 

I have an 06 2.4, Same HP as the 08.
I remember reading some were that the 06 & 07 2.4 are the same Engines and were advertised wrong in regards to Horse power.

 

I noticed that also in the brochure and thought maybe they changed the compression ratio a little since it can use 87 octane (91 recommended but not required) and this helps along with the VVT to eliminate and chance of knocking.
