Why did GM lower the horsepower ratings?

The EPA numbers have changed because the EPA fuel economy test has changed for 2008 models.

i just bought a 08 hhr lt1 with the 2.4 172 hp
on 12-06-08 when we tested the 07 verses the 08..the 08
came across a little smoother. hope the gas mpg are close to the specs.

I checked out Chevy's web site and found the 08 Malibu has the ecotex 2.4L but is listed as 169HP and 160 ft lb of torque. Chevy must be tuning the same engine different. Does anyone know if the Malibu 2.4 is designed for premium gas like the HHR (meaning manual suggest premium but will run on reg.) ?

Its only 3 hp but what did they change?

Would anyone really notice a 3 hp decrease or 3 lb-ft decrease in torque in on the road performance? Some people want bragging rights that my car has more hp than your car .

Oh yeah. Those "butt dynos" are terribly sensitive.

Well, yea. Tighter standards across the board.

Steven!!! This is a great site, you'll enjoy it. Are you from columbiana county, or another fairfield twp. in Ohio?

Maybe GM figured most people couldn't handle all that HP, so they reduced it by 3.
