  5. Remove the air temperature actuator.
Installation Procedure

Important: The key should be in the OFF position when connecting the electrical connectors to ensure proper calibration.
  1. Install the air temperature actuator.
  2. Install the air temperature actuator screws.
  3. Tighten the screws to 2.2 N·m (19 lb in).
  4. Install the air temperature actuator electrical connector.
  5. Install the knee bolster reinforcement.
  6. Install the fuse labeled HVAC CTRL (BATT).

Important: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control assembly while the HVAC control assembly and actuators are calibrating. If interrupted improper HVAC performance will result.
  7. Start the engine and let run for one minute.

I think the hhr heater doors and moved by eletric motors. we use to have problems on the dodges with there heater system that the module that controled the temp door would get confused and stop working. we were able to reset the module by disconecting the battery for 1 min then hooking it back up. then the heat would work again untill the next time it got confused. dodge later came out with a updated program that corrected the problem. Not sure if it will work on the hhr but what do you have to loose. give it a shot

I haven't seen this on an HHR yet but on GM big SUVs and Trail Blazers when you disconnect the battery they actually lose their calibration and quit working or the actuator flips over and won't work. These are usually high mileage vehicles and mostly this occurs on the mode door actuator not the temp door actuator.

The only other thing it might be besides the actuator, is the HVAC control head. You would need to know if the signal was being sent from the head to the actuator to know for sure which one it is.

If iys going to lose calibration then you mite not want to try my idea. is there diagnostics for this system with out the use of a scan tool?

Had this same problem pulled the actuator and a piece that plugged into the back came out broke. Any ideas or do I just need to dig in deeper?

Basically I believe it is the actual blend door that is now broken. I plugged the actuator back in and it moves freely when turning the temp knob. How hard is it to swap just the blend door?

It was a while back and a friend of mine fixed it. He said it was the control rod actually broke and he had to glue it back together and put a sleeve over it. Has worked great since. I noticed one thing when you have the air on high it is seems harder to move the knob so that may have had something to do with it breaking. Now I turn the fan off or on low before I move the control knob. Have not broke it again.....

Thanks ChevyMgr the drawings and information helped.

Angry

Have an 08 SS Heater issue. Thinking it was an actuator motor problem I tore into it. Actuator actually is in good shape. I removed the lower one as shown per attached... Pics show what the real issue is.
WTF GM ... is there a diagram of the doors inside the adjoining area and other related info please? Thanks!

Not likely any of the members earlier in this thread will respond, many have drifted away since 2011 ...
