Adding a Sunroof?

I'm not yet, but I intend to and I was wondering if anybody else has or if anyone has any tips at all. I think I'd like to find a parts car with one and steal the whole set up but I don't know if they slide in or up, if they're in want to find one from something like an 03 Grand Am, I like the slide ups aesthetically. I've also considered looking for the larger styles to go over my backseats to unless I can do a doubled set up. I'm just in the black area I've never been to before

This is an area where I'd go to a professional. There are companies that do this almost exclusivly and are good at it. There are enough problems reported by owners with stock sunroofs leaking.
I admit that if I wanted to add one, it would sure be nice to get a real GM sunroof and then have the right person add it. Think about shopping for one in the yellow pages and then asking if they could install a GM one if you provided it.

Cars that have factory installed sunroofs have a different roof with a different structure around the opening. Unless you get and replace the whole roof you can't add a factory sunroof.

Aftermarket sunroofs are designed to be added to a cut opening and are inherently inferior to factory sunroofs.

Aftermarket sunroofs will work, but you will need more diligence to keep them from leaking.

If you have one installed, go to a reputable shop that has been around a while and will still be around in a few years to fix the leak in the "lifetime warranty".

My buddy's wife had one added to her Mazda6 and it's been a NIGHTMARE! Was done by a pro shop and it leaks like a siv. Obviously not every instance will be the same...the shop does still offer to fix it everytime, however. I love me some sunroof, but IMO, it's not worth the forthcoming headache.

I remember seeing a post that some one did of someone who installed an aftermarket sunroof. It looked great. It was much bigger than the factory one. Perhaps someone will step in and post it. I haven't a clue where it was. (search is my friend)

Here are the steps to add a sunroof that will not leak and not have problems:

Well I want a sunroof regardless of the leak possibilty, I appreciate the insight though guys, I've had sunroofs in my last three cars and now I feel kinda clausterphobic, it's only a summer car anyways. And as I've looked I really like the idea of fold back roofs and the panoramic sunroofs, and I won't take it to anybody who doesn't do it regularly and reputably.
