Another TINT thread...this time involving the LAW
ok so yeah, ended up with a ticket for unapproved coating (tint) here in the great state of TX.
I know this has been talked about before, but this time its a touchy situation. MODS if you all can, maybe this should be copied to the TX area forum, and maybe the lounge? if not, OK.
well about the ticket.. ok so i have 35% all the way around, the front is tinted and well as all the rear windows..so the DPS trooper stops me and checks my rear windows, and it shows 4% transmission; and i believe the limit is 30 or so he stated( i know i think i talked about this in the other tint thread)... so when i said even if this "car" is consided a sport van(accoring to my insurance card its an "HHR EX LT sprt van", and according to the papers i signed to buy my "car" its stated as a NEW TRUCK, those are checked off under what kind of car sold)....
so i also talked about the way its worded accoriding to the trooper, that the state law for highways is different than the state law for vehicle inspection; in other words they contradict themselves (very stupid) basically the law says that no vehicle can have dark tint like that unless its a truck/suv and has side mirrors..and this is to DRIVE on a state highway... the inspection law states that any car before a certain yr i think its 1988 can have any tint it wants, but afte that yr it has to conform to 35 up front..
anyways...i told this all to the trooper; how god damn ironic the same trooper that gave me the warning not too long ago was the same bastard who gave me this ticket; he even remembered... he called in to the dispatch or whatever and said my car was reg'd as a passenger vehicle, even tho the insurcne and sell papers state otherwise..
im going to plead NOT GUILTY and see if i can get this taken care of, because if the morons who work in the DMV here messed up why should i have to pay for thier mistake?
long post, and bad spelling but im still pissed...
what do you all think

Not a tint issue but I had to go to my local DMV to have my HHR inspected as it was first registered as a commercial vehicle (truck) which is incorrect and is more costly in California for yearly tags.
It was just a slight inconvenience to have to do this because of someones mistake of it's classification.
It might be worth it to have it inspected and records to reflect it is not a truck.

This is the law here in Texas:
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN TEXAS?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Texas, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 25% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 25% of light in.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

ok, but is that for a car, or for an SUV/Truck?
AND...is that the state inspection law, or the dps trooper law for driving on state highways? because as ive said, they are different.

see thats what ive always thought/known...
but texas' best dps troopers state otherwise...
as stated, this law may apply to just state inspections, but not nessicarily to drive on a state highway, as the trooper seems to always state

well my papers state it ws sold to me as a truck, not a comm vehicle, but a truck; and my insurance states its a VAN
i want it reg'd as a van or truck or the like...that way it gets me off the hook LOL..
even tho that sounds guilty, its what was sold to me right?
