Chrome Lower Grill

I"m attempting to get a chrome lower grill to essentially match the original chrome upper grill. Everyone seems to have the billet polished aluminum stuff but I like the look of the chrome and have not been successful in finding it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello and to chevyhhr.net

At the moment, there are not many aftermarket lower grilles available that are not the polished aluminum. In the interim until something really cool is available, most of us have been either purchasing the billett or making their own as an alternative.

Here are some threads for you to look thru. I'm sure others may have some as well.

Also check out the discussions on THIS page for a way to improvise.

One member used another factory upper grill to fab a lower. He took it off because it didn't allow enough airflow.

This thread Has pics. Read post #30.

Hope this helps.

I understand the concept of airflow, but I've never felt a grill that far away from the radiator should cause a temp problem.

In fact.... mine doesn't.

I have kept a close watch on the guage and the digital all summer. It's been almost 100 degrees this week, no problem.

I'm just the messenger, not the one who made the statement. Just thought I'd mention it since at least he did have the problem.

Jerij, Where/how did you get/make that lower grill. You say you don`t experience over heating, thats a real concern when adding something like that. Hate to lose an engine in the quest for beauty!!!

I asked the same question in the 3rd thread I mentioned above. If you look closely, it appears to me that very wide 3M chrome trim was affixed to a billet grille. CH said he remembered them posting as such but couldn't find the thread where it was actually mentioned. If you look very carefully between the 2 wide strips, it appears to be a billett grille bar there as well. Then you could take some thinner chrome strips to go around the outside area to complete the look.

Got this picture from photo gallery that shows that this car has had a billett style grille, thus giving way to seeing part of it behind the trim. If I'm wrong Jerij...please elaborate, as I think it looks great and would love to do the same thing to mine. It looks great!!!

Good eye and memory Deb.

I have to wonder though if that's how it was done how well it will stay attached over time? The billets woulnd't give that much surface area to use.

Thanks...CH pointed out that it was in another thread...and lo and behold I found the thread HERE.

The "chrome" bands are wide body side moulding pieces cut to fit (sorta) and 3M taped/glue gunned over the outer frame. I'm going to replace the bottom strip to get rid of the mounting holes (they add to the cheese factor), round out the end areas and hopefully apply a thinner chrome strip around the side&lower perimeter of the opening.

I'm not a metalworks expert so fabricating something out of metal is probably not going to happen for me. The Carriage grill though supplied a very good frame/attach point for the bands though.
