CJ's 2Tone HHR Painting Seat Project
Looking Great CJ!!! I have the tan interior on mine as well. Sandstone on the outside. I practically live in my HHR. 9 weeks old today and 12K miles, and I've been out of town three days a week for two of those 9 weeks... YIKES I've comtemplated seat covers but haven't found any that I like. Keep us posted!

the dark grey then softens it so it isnt so bad, which is what i intended it to do in the first place. the light grey, then dark grey and then the graphite middle looks real good in person.

going to try this on my car. already got the graphite from SEMS I don't know if I should use it on the outside rim or on the center. What do you guys think? I'm unsure how dark it will turn out. The color on the top doesnt look very dark at all. I thought about using graphite on the outside and a dark red in the center of the seats. ideas?
I did some recent research on this too. I plan to do it probably in June. Out the dark inside. The wear of sliding in & out is on the outer edge of cushion. This is the better spot to leave as original. I was going to do the opposite.
I was advised against it from several car dudes.
CJ may have more input- but his hasn't been on too long.

well I decided to start my task. I decided to try it like a swimming pool water. I jumped in head first. If I have problems down the road i'll just have the seats reapolsterd.
In college a fellow callege decided to dye his factory brown leather bonneville (seats were over 10 years old) seats black. He sprayed it out of a paint gun rather than an arisol can. It looked great for a while. It had minor cracking in the base of the seat. I'm thinking that he didnt get good penetration because his seats were old and probably had tons of dirt/chemicals in the leather it self. He carried a can of touch up paint in the glove box.
On cloth seats: The paint wont crack because it a much more flexiable material.
I used SEM on my car $8 a can. I will probably end up using 3 cans of each color. If this works, it is a lot cheapr than apolstery work. 6 cans X $8 = $48 VS. $600 reapolstered. Dont get me wrong it would be nice to have some bad ass apostered seats but its not cost effective if you have good seats. I may eventually (10+ years if I still have the car that is) have mine apolsterd with 2 tone leather.
